Opening Drive ...* Western Oregon and Portland State meet for the 22nd time, but for the first time in six years.
* The Wolves have won 11 of the all-time meetings, but are 5-7-1 in the series in Portland.
* Portland State has won six straight in the series, with the last WOU win coming in 1961, when the school was named Oregon College of Education.
* Both schools were members of the Old Oregon Collegiate Conference from 1950 to 1964.
* Western Oregon went 10-1-1 in the first 12 meetings in the series, including a five-game win streak from 1949 to 1953.
* WOU is 1-13 versus Big Sky Conference opponents since joining the NCAA in 2001. It is also 1-17 against FCS (1-AA) opponents. The win was a 16-3 victory over Southern Utah in 2001.
* The Wolves have lost three straight season-openers, and won only one of their past five season-openers, a 38-10 win at Simon Fraser in 2010.
* Saturday's game is only the second against an opponent from the state of Oregon for WOU in the past four years. The last was a 24-23 win at Southern Oregon in 2010.
* The 7:15 p.m. kickoff is the latest for Western Oregon since 2000.
