BURNABY, B.C. – The Simon Fraser University women's soccer team scored an early goal and held off Western Oregon University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday, 1-0.
 
The Clan (1-5-1, 1-1-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) won its first game of the season. SFU took only five shots, compared to Western Oregon's 10. The Wolves placed four on goal, while Simon Fraser had four.
 
In the 15th minute, Sierra Leung brought in a ball from Ruby Sandhu and scored from the left side of the net. Both sides took three shots in the opening half, but WOU had seven shots in the second half. The Wolves also had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
Hailey Berg and Mariah Konyn both took two shots in the game for Western Oregon (3-3-1, 1-1-1 GNAC). Amanda Rose Johnson made a pair of saves in the game. Her counterpart, Priya Sandhu, made four.
 
The Wolves travel to Bellingham, Wash., for a matchup with No. 13 Western Washington. The Vikings (6-0-1, 2-0-1) beat Saint Martin's 2-1 in overtime Thursday. Western Oregon and WWU meet Saturday at 4 p.m. Live stats will be available on WOUWolves.com.
