#WOUSoccer Leaves Laie with Win

LAIE, Hawaii – The Western Oregon University women's soccer team won its first game of the season in thrilling fashion with a 1-0 victory at Brigham Young-Hawaii Tuesday.
 
The Wolves (1-1) recorded their first victory of the season courtesy to a goal in the 87th minute of the game. In only the second meeting between the programs, WOU evened the all-time series with the Seasiders at 1-1 with the win.
 
"That was a very hard fought tough road win in very tough hot humid conditions," Western Oregon Head Coach Steve Ancheta said. "It was a total team effort after a long travel day yesterday. We made some improvements in our second game of the season. We look forward to a rest day tomorrow, and then play another good team in Hawaii Pacific Thursday."
 
BYU-Hawaii and the Wolves both took seven shots, and both placed four shots on goal. Both sides took six corner kicks and each had six fouls. It was the Seasiders that made the critical mistake. Western Oregon's goal was an own-goal by BYU-Hawaii in the 87th minute.
 
Amanda Rose Johnson made four saves in the game for the Wolves, while Brigham Young-Hawaii's Makeena Seymour stopped three shots. All four of Johnson's saves came in the second half.
 
Savannah Bogan and Taija Bjorgo both took two shots, with one going to goal each, for WOU.
 
The Wolves and Hawaii Pacific play Thursday at 3 p.m. Hawaiian Time. It will be the third time the schools have met in soccer, as the all-time series is split, 1-1.
