THIS WEEK: Western Oregon volleyball returns home to compete against No. 16 Western Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday.
 
PROMOTIONS THIS WEEK: The Wolves will host PROFESSOR APPRECIATION NIGHT on Thursday to honor the numerous educators that impact the student-athletes on the Western Oregon volleyball team. On Saturday, the Wolves will recognize several businesses for LOCAL BUSINESS APPRECIATION NIGHT. Additionally, as supporters of the WOU Food Pantry, the team is asking that fans bring in donations. If fans bring in two cans of food to Saturday's game, they will receive free popcorn!

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Wolves endured two tough losses on the road last week. Despite being able to compete with both teams and win one set in each game, Western Oregon fell to Northwest Nazarene and to Central Washington. Each game resulted in a 1-3 loss.
  • Alisha Bettinson and Amanda Short led the team in both games as Bettinson totaled 19 kills for the weekend and Short totaled 21 kills.
  • Christie Colasurdo earned a season-high of three aces against Northwest Nazarene.
  • The team totaled 15 blocks for the weekend, recording 10 against Northwest Nazarene.

ABOUT WESTERN WASHINGTON
  • Ranked 16th this week in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll and placed second in the GNAC, the Vikings have only two losses on their conference record as Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington defeated them two weeks ago. Last week, Western Washington beat Simon Fraser, 3-1, and Montana State Billings, 3-0.
  • Western Washington is hitting .250 with 13.8 kills per set, while their opponents are hitting .182 with 12.7 kills per set.
  • Rachel Roeder is sixth in the GNAC with 250 total kills, averaging 3.16 kills per set. Abby Phelps is close behind with 240 kills, and she also has 192 digs. Kayleigh Harper is third in the GNAC in blocks with 108. Jennica McPherson and Brette Boesel also have spots in the top GNAC service aces as they each have 25.  

VS. WWU: Western Oregon is 13-30 with the Vikings in the all-time series. On October 10, Western Washington claimed a 3-0 victory over the Wolves.
 
ABOUT SIMON FRASER
  • The Clan is one spot ahead of the Wolves in the GNAC standings as they are currently in sixth place. Last week, they split their games with a 1-3 loss against Western Washington and a 3-0 win against Montana State Billings.
  • Simon Fraser is hitting .138 with 12 kills per set, while their opponents are hitting .174 with 12.7 kills per set.
  • Alison McKay is second in the GNAC with 503 total digs, averaging 5.78 digs per set. Tessa May currently holds the most amount of kills on the team with 215 and the most blocks with 105. May also has 180 digs. Danielle Curtis leads the team with 509 assists, averaging 6.36 assists per set.

VS. SFU: Western Oregon leads 20-4 in the series. On October 8, the Clan defeated the Wolves in three straight sets.

WOU TEAM NOTES: Here are some tidbits about the Western Oregon volleyball team through 23 matches:
  • Western Oregon is 7-16 overall this season with six victories coming at home. WOU sits in a tie for seventh place in the GNAC with Seattle Pacific and Alaska at 4-10 in league.
  • The Wolves are hitting .184 as a team with 11.1 kills per set. They hit over .300 twice - a season-best .386 in the three-game sweep at MSUB on Oct. 15 and .302 at home against Alaska on Sept. 19.
  • Western Oregon is currently fifth in the GNAC with an average of 16.01 digs per set.

ON THE GNAC HORIZON: The Wolves will start early next week as they travel to Concordia on Tuesday, November 10. They will then host Montana State Billings on Saturday, November 14.
