Head Coach
Arne Ferguson and his staff inked 38 players to National Letters of Intent (NLIs), marking the second straight year in which the Wolves signed 30-or-more student-athletes in a single recruiting class. WOU signed 19 student-athletes from the state of Oregon, including nineteen on the offensive side of the ball, sixteen on the defensive side of the ball, one that can both both offense and defense, and one special teams player.
The Wolves are coming off a second place finish in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) with a 4-2 league record in 2014, as Western Oregon compiled a win-loss record of 6-5 en route to posting the program's ninth straight winning season.
"The things that we wanted to emphasize in this year's class are the speed and size that they bring to the college level," said Ferguson. "This class is the most complete class that I have signed in my 29 years at Western Oregon that includes 10 as head coach."
Ferguson was pleased that nearly 60% of this year's class came from the state of Oregon, as well as adding high-quality athletes from the states of Alaska, California, Hawaii, and Washington.
"Our number one goal is always to recruit Oregon and despite signing 20 Oregonians, we feel that the kids from out of state contribute to the all-around class as well," said Ferguson. "We feel that a lot of these players will contribute early on in their career."
When asked about the high-quality student-athletes that Western Oregon signed, Ferguson commented by saying, "Our first goal is to recruit the best athletes that do not go Division I and we feel that this class is well rounded with size and speed as well as represents as an all-around class."
Western Oregon hopes to increase the size of its class before the end of the signing period with Ferguson saying, "We expect six to eight more players to commit within the next few days making this the most complete class that we have recruited to date at WOU."
