ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Western Oregon women's basketball endured a tough 90-39 loss to No. 2/4 Alaska Anchorage on Thursday evening.
The Wolves dropped to 2-11 in their overall record and 1-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while the Seawolves improved to 17-1 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC. Alaska Anchorage remains undefeated in their 10 home matches.
"That's why they are No. 2 in the nation," head coach
Holli Howard-Carpenter said. "They are focused and relentless for forty minutes."
The Seawolves set out for the attack from the game's first play to the final whistle. By the end of the first quarter, Alaska Anchorage already had a 20-point lead, and they did not slow down one bit as they went on scoring streaks several times.
Western Oregon finished the game with a field goal percentage of 28.6, making 12 of 42 field goals, whereas the Seawolves posted 55.4 percent in field goals, scoring 44 points in the paint compared to the Wolves' six.

Launia Davis added six.
On the other end, the Seawolves had four women achieve double digits, including Jessica Madison (17), Megan Mullings (16), Alysha Devine (11), and Sierra Afoa (10).

"We did a poor job of making corrections tonight and made it even harder on ourselves," Howard-Carpenter said. "I'm disappointed in our effort to control the things we could control. We have to do a better job of getting the little things done if we want to be a competitive team in the GNAC."
The Wolves will face Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday evening at 5:15 p.m. Alaska Time (6:15 p.m. Pacific).
