ABOUT WESTERN OREGON:
  • Western Oregon University softball is coming off a successful weekend of walk-off victories in games played at the Hillsboro Stadium softball complex. The Wolves split with Central Washington University after Emma Alfonso blasted a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the first game of a doubleheader. The very next day, Lexi Jennings played hero twice with a game-winning homerun in the first game and two-run single in the second game of a doubleheader sweep over conference leading Saint Martin's University. The Wolves pulled even at 6-6 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and 13-14 overall.
  • Head coach Lonny Sargent enters his fourth season at the helm of the WOU softball program. He's put together a 94-90 record (including this season's results) as a manager. With a victory over Saint Martin's University on March 26, 2016, Sargent recorded his 300th career victory. Prior to his tenure at WOU, Sargent coached at Utah State, Troy and his alma mater Warner Pacific.

WEATHER PLAYING HAVOC:
  • Persistent rain in the Willamette Valley has not only kept the wolves from playing a true home game at WOU Softball Field, but it has severely limited practice time on the field as well. The Wolves have switched schedules this year to play on the road and at Hillsboro Stadium on March 25-26.
  • Western Oregon has fared well in neutral site games, amassing a 10-5 record so far this season. They will play six more neutral site games this weekend in Turlock.

 ABOUT THE OPPONENTS:
  • San Francisco State University has won eight straight games to sit at 19-12 on the season. They are coming off road sweeps in the CCAA over Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Marcos.
  • Dominican University of California is 11-20 overall on the season. The Penguins were able to bounce back from four losses to PacWest powers California Baptist University and Dixie State University by splitting a two-game set with Academy of Art last Saturday.
  • Humboldt State University continues to be a powerhouse in the West Region. The Jacks are on a 12-game winning streak to sit at 25-2-1 on the season. Their only losses have come to former NFCA No. 1 West Texas A&M University and Chico State University.
  • Azusa Pacific University out of the PacWest is 18-7 for the year and has a series victory (3-1) over Dixie State. Most recently, the Cougars took two games at home over Chaminade.
  • Cal State University San Bernardino is near the .500-mark at 18-19 overall. The Coyotes have dropped 11 of their last 12 games, including three of four at home to Sonoma State University last weekend.
  • Chaminade University, out of Honolulu, has faced some of the toughest PacWest competition over the past eight days. The Silverswords have lost 12 straight with games at Dixie State, California Baptist, Azusa Pacific and Concordia-Irvine.
