WOU opens with Concordia at GNAC Championships

Wolves begin postseason Thursday at noon

After winning 12 of its final 15 games to close out the regular season – including a pair of five-game streaks – the Western Oregon softball team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GNAC Softball Championship in Lacey, Wash. The Wolves finished the regular season with a 16-111 conference mark and will take on No. 3 Concordia in the opening round of the tournament Thursday (April 28) at 12 noon.

WOU (29-22) finished as the regular season runner-up after a fourth-place finish in 2015. The Wolves took three of four games from the Cavaliers over the final week to contend for the GNAC crown.

Ironically, the Wolves and the Cavaliers will resume their rivalry on the diamond, playing their fifth game in the span of eight days. WOU took both games against Concordia played in Monmouth on April 20 before splitting games in Portland on April 21.

This year, the GNAC is guaranteed to have a new tournament champion after the Yellowjackets of MSUB did not qualify to defend their title.

All of the games during the double-elimination tournament will have live stats available on WOU's Stretch Internet Portal.
