The Wolves resume GNAC league play this week, hosting Simon Fraser on Thursday (Sept. 29) and #23 Western Washington on Saturday night (Oct. 1) at the New P.E. Building. Both matches start at 7 p.m. and will have video coverage on WOUWolves.com/Live.

SCOUTING THE SIMON FRASER CLAN
Simon Fraser had an eight-match winning streak snapped on Saturday, but have an impressive 10-2 record heading in to Thursday's match with WOU. One of the wins came against nationally-ranked Western Washington in five sets to open GNAC play on Sept. 14. The Clan is averaging 13.1 kills, 1.5 aces, 18.3 digs and 2.0 blacks per set, hitting .205 as a team. Four players are averaging over two kills per set, led by senior Emma Jennings at 3.14 kps. Also above 2.0 kps are senior Devon May (2.98), sophomore Tessa May (2.4) and junior Christine Howlett (2.25). Senior Tamara Nipp (11.0) is the primary setter for the Clan. Senior Alison Mckay is tops on the squad with 6.28 digs per set, while May (1.0) is the only player averaging a block per set.

THE MATCHUP: WOLVES VS. CLAN
Western Oregon leads the all-time series with SFU, 20-5, but the Clan has won the last four meetings with the Wolves. Last season, Simon Fraser won both matches, sweeping WOU in three in Burnaby and taking a road victory in four sets in Monmouth.
SCOUTING THE WESTERN WASHINGTON VIKINGS
Western Washington, which plays at Concordia on Thursday, enters this week with a 6-6 overall record and 2-2 mark in the GNAC after splitting home matches against the Alaska schools. WWU lost 3-1 to Alaska Anchorage, but bounced back with a 3-0 win over Alaska. The Vikings are averaging 13.4 kills, 1.4 service aces, 17.0 digs and 1.8 block per set, hitting .233 as a team. Four players are posting at least 2.0 kills per game, led by sophomore Abby Phelps at 3.23. Phelps is also first in digs at 4.21 per set and third in blocking with 21 total. Joining Phelps above 2.0 kills a set is junior Arielle Turner (2.88), sophomore Kayleigh Harper (2.51) and sophomore Michaela Hall (2.05). Sophomore Brette Boesel and junior Kristina Tribley are splitting the setting duties with Boesel averaging 6.28 assists per set while Tribley is at 5.07 aps. Behind Phelps in the dig column is senior libero Bryce Larson at 4.21dps and junior Joelle Buckner at 3.51 dps. Harper (1.05) is the only Viking with at least a block per set.

THE MATCHUP: WOLVES VS. VIKINGS
WWU leads the series dating back to 1988 by a 31-13 advantage, having won six in a row against the Wolves. Last season, the Wolves were swept in Bellingham and lost in four at home. The last Western Oregon victory in the series came on Oct. 25, 2012 in a three-game sweep at home.Â
