WOLVES' WATCH
Junior outside hitter
Alisha Bettinson is leading Western Oregon in kills through the first three matches with 40, averaging 3.33 kills per set. Sophomore
Amanda Short is second with 27 kills while
Sydney Blankinship and
Paige Orth each have 18 kills. Orth is the WOU leading blocker at 0.67 blocks per game. Sophomore setter
Maddie Mehciz leads the team with 8.5 assists per set while senior libero
Christie Colasurdo paces the team with 4.75 digs per game. Redshirt freshman
Libbie Hoene has the touch from the line, leading WOU in serving aces with nine.
SOARING EAGLES
In their second year of NCAA Division II play, the Eagles of Concordia-Irvine have soared out of the gate. CUI is 5-0 on the year after sweeping four matches last weekend at home against Seattle Pacific, UC San Diego, Simon Fraser and Colorado Christian. The win streak extended to five matches with a three-game sweep over Western New Mexico on Monday. Coming off a 14-15 record last year, the Eagles were picked fourth in the PacWest behind three teams that have NCAA Regional appearances (California Baptist, Dixie State, Point Loma). Western Oregon holds a 1-0 advantage after the two teams met in 1994.
Â
SHARK ATTACK
Staying on the islands for their first five matches, Hawaii Pacific went 3-2 with losses to Alaska-Anchorage and Cal Poly Pomona, but wins over San Francisco State, Alaska and Montana State Billings. The Sharks have played a variety of matches, being on both ends of a sweep and winning their only five-setter against the Yellowjackets. WOU has won seven of the previous 11 meetings with Hawaii Pacific despite the last meeting being in 2012.
Â
WILDCAT REUNION
WOU head coach
Tommy Gott will have a new experience Friday when he sees his former club, the Chico State Wildcats, on the other side on the net. Chico State bounced back from an early setback against Dominican to end the Route 92 Showdown with three match wins against Holy Names, Notre Dame de Namur and Academy of Art. Camryn Rocha leads the Wildcats through four matches with 52 kills. The Wolves and Chico State met last year at the WOU Invitational with Chico winning in four sets to extend their series streak to five matches. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 9-2.

I AM THE WARRIOR!
Like most West Region teams, Stanislaus State played in a pre-Labor Day tournament. They traveled up to Anchorage and came back with a 1-3 record after sweeping Westminster and dropping matches to two nationally ranked teams – Alaska-Anchorage and Arkansas-Fort Smith. Picked to contend for the CCAA North Division title, Stanislaus State comes into the weekend with a three players already over the 30-kill mark – Blair Ehrlich, Victoria Larsen and Taylor Massengale. In four historical meetings, WOU holds a 4-0 advantage with the last meeting coming in 2007.

WOLVES OPEN 0-3 AT CU LABOR DAY TOURNEY
Prior to Labor Day in Portland, Western Oregon could not find the closing spurt they needed and lost their opening three matches of the year. On Sept. 1, WOU had No. 15 Florida Southern on the ropes taking the first two sets in convincing fashion. The Moccasins would rally and take the match after a 15-9 win in the final set. The next day, errors hurt the Wolves as they were swept by Embry-Riddle. On Saturday, the Wolves dropped the first set to Metro State but responded with a 25-14 win in set two. The Roadrunners seized momentum with a dominant third set and eventually took the match after a closely contested fourth game.
WHAT'S ON THE HORIZON
Western Oregon plunges into GNAC play after participating in the #D2VBShowcase. The Wolves open their home schedule on Sept. 15 against Northwest Nazarene then face Central Washington on Sept.17. Both matches inside the New P.E. Building are scheduled for 7 p.m. first serves.
