MONMOUTH, Ore.—The Western Oregon University (2-7-1, 1-4-1 GNAC) women's soccer team will embark on the long road trip east to face Montana State Billings and Northwest Nazarene this week. The Wolves will face Montana State Billings on Thursday, Oct. 12 and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 14.

ABOUT MSU BILLINGS (2-9-1, 1-5-1 GNAC): The Yellowjackets are coming off a 1-1-0 week after defeating Simon Fraser, 4-1, and falling to Saint Martin's, 2-0, in a pair of home contests… The win against SFU was the lone GNAC victory so far for MSUB with their other league point occurring in a 1-1 tie at Western Oregon on Sept. 23… The duo of Alycia Wright and Alexa Iacolucci has scored nine of the team's 13 goals with Wright posting a team-leading five goals… MSUB has been credited with just six assists in 12 matches… Erinn Harder has made 8-of-12 starts in net and holds a 1.70 goals against average and a .725 save percentage while compiling a 1-6-1 record.

ABOUT NORTHWEST NAZARENE (8-4-1, 5-2-1 GNAC): The Crusaders have won four of their last five matches with three shutouts by its defense over that span… Last week NNU defeated Central Washington, 3-0, and Seattle Pacific, 1-0, in overtime… NNU defeated Western Oregon, 2-0, in Monmouth on Sept. 21… Madi Taylor and Rikki Myers have scored 11 of the team's 22 goals this season with Taylor registering a team-high six scores… Anita Maryskova holds the team lead with four assists… Daniele Ortiz has allowed just eight goals in 900 minutes of play in goal for a 0.80 goals against average… She has posted six shutouts and holds a .814 save percentage on the year.

LAST WEEK: The Wolves posted its second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win at Central Washington on Oct. 7… Sydney Thomas scored for the Wolves 29 seconds into the second half while Meli Cortez added an insurance goal in the 58th minute… In goal, Caitlin Kastelic stopped six shots, three in each half, for the clean sheet… The improved WOU's road record to 2-2-0 this season.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Wolves will close out its current four-match road swing at Concordia University on Oct. 19… Two of the team's three final games of the regular season will take place at home for WOU with Saint Martin's traveling to Monmouth for an Oct. 21 match and Simon Fraser making the trip on Oct. 28... In between those to home contests, WOU will travel to face Seattle Pacific on Oct. 26.

OVERTIME: Three of WOU's 10 matches this season have not only gone into overtime, but have advanced to the second overtime period… All three OT matches have been home matches… The Wolves are 0-2-1 in OT matches with a 3-2 loss in the season opener against Biola (Aug. 31) and a 2-1 loss to Seattle Pacific (Sept. 30)… The Wolves earned a point in a 1-1 tie against Montana State Billings (Sept. 23).  

TOMASINO NAMED GNAC POW: With two goals in the second half against Chaminade, freshman Alyssa Tomasini was named the GNAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11… Tomasini broke the stalemate in the 64th minute against the Silverswords and returned with her second goal of the day in the 81st minute to preserve the first win of the season for the Wolves.

WOU ATTACK: Seven different WOU players have scored a goal so far this season with freshman Alyssa Tomasini and junior Meli Cortez tied for the team lead with two goals each… The team's six assists have come from five different players… Alexie Morris has the team lead with two assists… Tomasini, junior defender Dana Jacobs and freshman forward Kennedy Clay have all notched at least one goal and one assist for the Wolves this season.

IN GOAL: Sophomore Caitlin Kastelic has played all 945:30 minutes for the Wolves between the pipes… Kastelic holds a 2.28 goals allowed per match average and a .696 save percentage… Kastelic is third in the GNAC with 55 total saves this season… With 1,540 minutes logged a year ago, Kastelic played all but 10 minutes in goal during her freshman campaign for the Wolves in 2016.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: The Wolves feature eight freshmen and six sophomores on the roster… Defender Kai Mahuka represents the lone senior on the squad… Four players are in their third season in the program in Dacia AlexanderChelsea HartnettMorgan Roan and Sydney Thomas.

RETURNERS: The Wolves return eight players that started at least one match a year ago, including senior defender Kai Mahuka, who got the starting nod in 15 contests in 2016… In the midfield, Meli Cortez made eight starts, Dacia Alexander six and Selene Konyn five… Defender Kaitlin Poe started four contests on the back line... The Wolves graduated players that scored 13 of the team's 16 goals a year ago, including Taylor Higa, who led the squad with seven goals and four assists.

GNAC PRESASON POLL: With 23 points in the poll of the nine head coaches, the Wolves were picked to finish eighth in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll… The Wolves ranked higher than Saint Martin's (11 points) while being edged in points by Northwest Nazarene (26 points)… Defending national champion Western Washington earned all nine first-place votes for 91 points and was followed by Central Washington (62 points) and Concordia (58 points).

2016 RECAP: The Wolves went 5-11-1 overall in 2016… With a 2-9-1 record in GNAC play, WOU placed seventh in the league standings… WOU opened the year with back-to-back wins against George Fox and the Academy of Art… The Wolves experienced two overtime games a year ago, taking a loss at Saint Martin's on Oct. 6 and returning with a double-overtime win at Concordia on Oct. 18.
