NAMPA, Idaho—Held to a season-low .030 hitting percentage, Western Oregon University fell in three sets to No. 12-ranked Northwest Nazarene University inside Johnson Sports Center on Saturday.
Northwest Nazarene (19-1, 11-1 GNAC) used a 15-5 run to break open the first set and thwarted early Western Oregon (6-13, 2-10 GNAC) leads in the second and third sets to post its third straight sweep following the team's lone loss, a 3-2 defeat Central Washington on Oct. 10.
The Wolves gained two separate 3-point leads in the second set following kills by
Sianna DeCarli (6-3) and
Jenna Compton (10-7). WOU added to its advantage on a
Sydney Blankinship block for a 13-8 edge, but a 10-point spree as part of a 17-3 run by the Nighthawks reversed the fortunes of the set.
Katherine Huntington and Marielle Vandenkooy posted early kills in the third set as the Wolves jumped out to another lead, this time a 7-1 spread. Hitting a match-high .324, NNU once again battled back in the middle section of the set en route to the 25-18 clincher.
NNU's Kendra Bodine led all players with 19 kills while Huntington paced WOU with seven terminations.
WOU will return home next week by hosing Western Washington on Oct. 26 and Simon Fraser on Oct. 28.
