Texans topple Wolves, 28-6

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Converting 4 of 5 chances inside the red zone with touchdowns, Tarleton State defeated Western Oregon, 28-6, in non-conference football action inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Tarleton State, members of the Lone Star Conference, improved to 6-3 on the season while Western Oregon fell to 2-7 overall.

The Wolves will close out the season with back-to-back home games beginning with a visit from Azusa Pacific on Nov. 4. Western Oregon will then host Simon Fraser for Senior Day on Nov. 11 in the season finale at McArthur Field.

Defending their home turf, the Texans scored on their opening possession as Zed Woerner tossed an 18-yard touchdown to Del'Michael High to cap a 9-play, 73-yard drive. Using the final five minutes of the first quarter,

Tarleton State punched in a 4-yarder with a rush by Xavier Turner to make it a 14-0 contest.

After a scoreless second quarter, Western Oregon broke through with a 9-play drive that finalized with a 1-yard bulldozing effort by Caleb Tingstad to make it a 14-6 spread. WOU senior receiver Paul Revis accounted for 23 of the 36-yard drive with a pair of catches from Nick Duckworth.

On the ensuing possession, the Texans quickly extended their lead once again as Turner found the end zone with a 1-yarder of his own.

Tarleton State forced the Wolves to punt on their next three possession while an interception inside red zone stalled the WOU attack early in the fourth quarter.

In addition to the interception, the Texans' defense posted five sacks and forced one fumble on the night. Offensively, TSU outgained WOU, 354 to 299.

Duckworth finished with 235 yards passing on 24 of 412 attempts. Zack Suarez was the primary beneficiary with six catches for 69 yards. Devon Fortier led WOU on the ground with 14 carries for 45 yards.

The WOU linebacking trio of Andrew Weber, Tyler Wharf and Bo Highburger combined for 30 of the team's 68 tackles with Weber posting a career-high 14 stops.
