MONMOUTH, Ore.—With 10 different players scoring at least five points, the No. 16-ranked Western Oregon men's basketball team defeated the University of Alaska Anchorage, 82-50, in GNAC action on Sunday night.
Western Oregon (10-1, 2-1 GNAC) jumped out to a 13-3 lead and never trailed in the game. Vince Boumann powered the early WOU strike with 13 of the team's first 15 points. Boumann missed his first attempt of the game and returned with six straight makes in addition to a conversion from the free throw line.
With Boumann's strong play, the Wolves dominated the game in the paint to finish with a 58-to-12 point advantage down low.
WOU created a 20-point lead on two occasions in the first half and extended the advantage to as many as 35 points in the second half.
Ali Feruq-Bey and
Tanner Omlid also reached double figures in scoring for the Wolves with Feruq-Bey ending the night with a dozen points and Omlid 10. Connecting on 3-of-3 from beyond the arc,
Nick Nestell tied a career high with nine points for the Wolves.
UAA shot just 27.5 percent (14-of-51) from the floor, but made the most of their opportunities at the free throw line by making 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) from the stripe.
Brian Pearson led UAA with a career high 16 points.
Western Oregon will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 19 when they host the Univ. of Alaska Fairbanks. Tip off against the
