LONG BEACH, Calif. – Closing a great weekend under sunny skies in Southern California, the Western Oregon track & field team sent a select group to compete in the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State, at Jack Rose Track on Saturday.
 
The Wolves turned in two NCAA Division II provisional times and four top-35 performances in a field that featured Division I, high-level club and international athletes.
 
Freshman jumper Alani Troutman had the best overall finish for Western Oregon finishing in 15^th place in the long jump with a mark of 7.28m, a career-best and the second best effort from a Division II contender.
 
The second effort netting a provisional time for WOU was posted by sophomore Olivia Woods in the 800m. Woods ran a time of 2:12.70.
 
Senior Aaron Whitaker continued his strong and steady pace in the men's 400 with a time of 49.21 to finish in 24^th place.
 
Western Oregon returns home and will begin training for their next event, the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis on April 28-29 at Whyte Center.
