Box Score 3 MONMOUTH, Ore.—In the first of four home matches as part of the DII West Region Showcase, Western Oregon University defeated Cal State University San Marcos 3-0 inside the New P.E. Building on Thursday night.
Improving to 3-1 on the season, the match represented the second consecutive win via sweep for Western Oregon. Cal State San Marcos fell to 2-3 with the result.
In earlier action of the DII West Region Showcase, Chaminade defeated Seattle Pacific, 3-0, in the opener while Cal State East Bay came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Fresno Pacific, 3-2.
The Wolves dominated action in the opening set against the Cougars, turning a 7-6 advantage into a 10-point spread (20-10) by holding CSUSM to a .000 hitting percentage in the initial offering.
CSUSM battled through the middle portions of the second set, eventually taking a 19-17 lead on a block by Madi Anderson and Faith Fortune. A five-point run for the home side, however, dispelled any hopes of a tie-making set.

The Cougars forced several late ties in the final set, the final occurrence with the score settled at 23-23, before back-to-back kills by Bettinson and
Jenna Compton completed the sweep for WOU.
The Wolves never trailed by more than two points at any point in the match.
"I thought we came out with great energy, executed our game plan and were able to make the adjustments throughout the match," head coach
Tommy Gott said.
Bettinson led all players with 17 kills and was followed by 11 each from the CSU San Marcos duo of Maddy Newcombe and Courtney Hulla.

Mackenzie Bowen pulled in a team-high 13 digs.
Western Oregon will return to the court at 3 p.m. on Friday when it faces Chaminade University in the third overall match of the day.
"Chaminade had a great match today so it's going to be a battle. It's going to be a game of who controls the first contact, who can win the serve and pass battle," Gott said.
The second day of the tournament will begin with Seattle Pacific facing Cal State East Bay at 10 a.m. Cal State San Marcos follows with a 12:30 p.m. tilt against Fresno Pacific.
