Perfect 10: Wolves continue streak with win over NNU

MONMOUTH, Ore.—Capturing its 10th straight win, the No. 9-ranked Western Oregon University men's basketball team defeated Northwest Nazarene, 82-64, inside the NPE Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Western Oregon (17-1, 9-1 GNAC) never trailed outside of the opening minute of play and with a dominating 31-to-16 edge in total rebounds through the first 20 minutes, the Wolves generated a 41-28 lead at the break.

In a balanced attack offensively, nine different Wolves scored in the first half while senior forward JJ Chirnside went on to score 18 points for the second straight game to match his newly-minted career high. Chirnside was 7-of-12 from the floor after an 8-for-11 night on Thursday.

Including Chrinside, five Wolves reached double figures in scoring with Ali Faruq-Bey (13), Dustin Triano (12), Malik Morgan (11) and Tanner Omlid (10) all providing scoring threats. WOU shot 41.6 percent from the floor, its third lowest rate of the season, but was buoyed by crisp passing that led to 25 assists on the team's 32 made baskets.

Northwest Nazarene (9-7, 5-5 GNAC) was led by Obi Megwa with a game-high 21 points. Hitting just 19-of-54 from the floor, the Crusaders shot 35.2 percent from the floor on the night, but managed to convert 19-of-25 from the free throw line.

Western Oregon will hit the road next week with its annual trip through Alaska. The Wolves will play at Alaska Anchorage on Jan. 25 and at Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 27. WOU's next home game will take place on Jan. 30 when they host Concordia University.

WOU has not dropped a game since Dec. 2 when it fell at Western Washington. Since that loss, eight of the team's 10 wins along the streak have been by double digits.
