Alaska rallies for 3-1 win over Wolves on Senior Day

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks snapped their two-game losing streak with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16) win over the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday at NPE Gym.

Playing in their final home game of the season, it was the final match in Monmouth for six Western Oregon (6-17, 3-13 GNAC) seniors.

The Wolves came out of the gate with a strong first set, leading wire-to-wire over Alaska (11-12, 9-7 GNAC) in game one. Mariella Vandenkooy had five kills in the first set while Morgan Haskett and Sierra Stultz each contributed another four kills.

UAF relied on strong defense over the next three games to pull away with the victory. As a team, the Nanooks totaled 13.0 blocks, led by the six of Kim Wong.

Alaska was able to best .200 in hit percentage in each of the final three sets, finishing with a team mark of .254 over the four games.

Lahra Weber posted a double-double performance with 17 kills and 14 digs.

WOU's Stultz came one kill shy of a double-double of her own, totaling nine kills and 14 digs on Saturday.

The Wolves finish their regular season with four straight matches on the road beginning next week. First serve Nov. 1 at No. 2 Western Washington is set for 7 p.m.
