PORTLAND, Ore.—In the penultimate match of the season for both teams, Concordia University posted a 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-17) win over Western Oregon University on Tuesday.
Down 21-14 in the opening set, Western Oregon (6-20, 3-16 GNAC) stormed back with a 9-2 run to force a 23-23 tie. The Wolves survived a pair of set points at 24-23 on a Concordia (11-14, 8-11 GNAC) attacking error and 25-24 via a
Mariella Vandenkooy kill but ultimately succumbed by the 27-25 score.
The Wolves jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start the second set and maintained an advantage until a CU block made it a 10-10 score. The Cavs committed just four attacking errors in the set to create a 21-18 gap and closed out the win with the final four points.
The Cavaliers closed out the match with their best performance of the night. Forcing WOU to a match-low .045 hit rate, the Cavs created a 12-3 lead before the eight-point win in the finale.
Vandenkooy led the Wolves with 11 kills while CU's Elyssa Rose led all players with 14 terminations.
Maddie Mehciz led the Wolves with 15 assists while
Leila Holt paced the club with 18 digs.
Aubrey Stanton also reached double figures in the category with 10 digs on the night.
Western Oregon will close out the year at Montana State Billings on Saturday, Nov. 10. Opening serve is set for 2 p.m. local time in Billings.
