MONMOUTH, Ore. – Just the second coach in the program's history, Western Oregon women's soccer head coach Steve Ancheta will be moving on from his post at the university, effective immediately.
Ancheta took over as head coach of the WOU soccer team prior to the 2011 season. In his eight seasons, Ancheta's teams posted a 50-69-22 overall record and a 33-53-18 mark in GNAC competitions. Ancheta led the Wolves to back-to-back GNAC tournament appearances in 2012 and 2013.
His 2013 team went 7-3-4 in conference play to place fourth in the league standings. Named the GNAC Coach of the Year in 2013, the team's 9-4-6 overall record that year stands as the second-best single season winning percentage in school history (.631).
Evidenced by 12 student-athletes selected to the GNAC All-Academic team this season, Ancheta's teams were often among the league leaders in team grade-point average. Since 2011, his teams compiled a 27-27-10 record while playing at home.
"I would like to thank Steve for his service and dedication to the Western Oregon women's soccer program. We wish him and his family well in all his future endeavors," Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Curtis Campbell said.
A national search for the next WOU women's soccer head coach will commence immediately.
