Hawai’i finale cancelled for Western Oregon, Dallas Baptist

HONOLULU—After a medical emergency forced a cancellation of the previous game inside the Hawai'i Convention Center, the coaching staffs of Western Oregon and Dallas Baptist came together and agreed to cancel their final contest at the Hoops in Hawai'i D2 Power Invitational on Tuesday.

Playing in the second game of the day, Hawai'I Pacific and Southern Nazarene halted competition after a Hawai'i Pacific player collapsed during a media timeout in the first half. He was attended to by the HPU training staff as well as the medical staff at the Convention Center until emergency crews arrived. He was then rushed to a local medical facility.

"After talking with the Dallas Baptist coach, both teams gathered at half court and said a prayer for the kid. We were excited to play today, but there was no gray area in this matter as it was the right thing to do out of respect for the individual and for the other teams involved," WOU head coach Jim Shaw said.

The game will not be made up and it will conclude the week in Hawai'i for the Wolves.
