Wolves, Saints split Saturday series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LACEY, Wash.—Behind a 2-hit shutout performance by Haley Fabian, Western Oregon University managed a conference split, 6-0 and 1-9, against Saint Martin's University on Saturday.
 
With the result, Western Oregon (19-15, 7-5 GNAC) remains tied for second place in the conference standings along with Northwest Nazarene. Saint Martin's (16-13, 6-6 GNAC), meanwhile, ends the week in fifth place in the GNAC standings.
 
Western Oregon will return to action next week with a four-game series at NNU on April 6-7.
 
Game 1: Western Oregon def. Saint Martin's, 6-0
 
Scoring runs in each of the first three innings, Western Oregon defeated Saint Martin's 6-0 in the opening game of a GNAC doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Cheyanne Rimer opened the WOU barrage with a solo homer in the 1st and was followed by extra-base hits by Sydney Bowers and Ayanna Arceneaux in the 2nd to pad its lead.
 
Kiley Lynn started the 2nd-inning spree with a 2-out single and was followed by a Bowers' triple to right center and a double to left by Arceneaux for a 3-0 lead.

The Wolves tacked on a solo run in the 3rd on a Ryanne Huffman triple with Huffman scoring on the same play via a SMU fielding error. Tyler Creach belted an RBI triple and Huffman an RBI single in the 7th for the final spread.
 
Fabian tossed a 2-hit shutout for the win. SMU recorded just two on the day against Fabian with infield singles in the 4th and 6th frames.
 
Fabian struck out five and walked one.
 
Game 2: Saint Martin's def. Western Oregon, 9-1 (6 inn.)
 
Falling behind 3-0 after the 1st inning, Western Oregon had to settle for a GNAC split as Saint Martin's defeated the Wolves 9-1 in the second half of the doubleheader.
 
The Saints tallied 13 hits in the game and ended the contest with a 4-run 6th inning.
 
Ryanne Huffman drove in the lone WOU run with an RBI single in the 3rd to plate Sydney Bowers. Bowers opened the stanza with a single to right.
 
SMU's Lauren Maley improved to 11-8 on the season with a six-inning complete game appearance. Maley struck out one and did not walk a batter.
