No. 15 Vikings stay unbeaten in GNAC play, drop Wolves 5-0

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon soccer team suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday, falling 5-0 to the Western Washington Vikings at WOU Soccer Field. The loss ended a streak of three straight matches receiving points for Western Oregon (5-4-2, 2-2-1 GNAC) and represented their largest loss of the year.

"We didn't have the right mentality in the first 15 minutes today. We were definitely nervous going into the game," head coach Kacey Bingham said. "We talked about our standards and once we calmed down I thought we did some really great things. I think some players had breakout games, especially our freshman Hannah Rispler in the midfield. We're excited to get two more home games next week."

No. 15 Western Washington (9-2, 5-0 GNAC) wasted little time getting on the board, scoring their first goal just over one minute into the game. Jenna Killman received a cross deep in the box from Karli White and put her one-timer towards the left side of the net.

The Vikings extended their lead to 3-0 inside of the first 14 minutes of the match, getting a second assist from White on a cross to Grace Eversaul. White finished the match with a goal and two assists.

Western Oregon's best chance to score came half an hour into the contest when Hannah Rispler and Isabelle Creighton put together a pair of shots within a two-minute span. Rispler went wide left and Creighton's try was knocked down by Vikings keeper Natalie Dierickx.

The Wolves had seven total shots in the game, one coming on goal. Six separate players would record a shot in the game. Western Oregon also recorded 17 fouls in the match, their second-highest total for a game this season.

WOU will play two home games next week to close out their run of five straight home matches, hosting Montana State Billings Thursday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. and Northwest Nazarene Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at WOU Soccer Field.
