Men's basketball slated for two games in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team will hit the road for the first time this week, heading to Portland for the 2019 Concordia Oxford Suites Portland Classic. During the two-day, four-team tournament, the Wolves will take on the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts Friday, Nov. 22, and the Regis University Rangers Saturday, Nov. 23.

Western Oregon (1-0) played their first official game last Saturday, surviving the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans for a 74-69 win at NPE Gym. Hilo led by seven with just under 13 minutes remaining, but WOU battled back for the season-opening victory.

Dalven Brushier led a trio of players to log 36 or more minutes for the Wolves, playing all but one minute in the game and scoring 21 points. The senior shot 7-of-15 from the field, pulling down five rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Tyreek Price added on 11 points off the bench to lead the reserves in scoring. Price hit three 3-pointers in the game on eight attempts.

Notre Dame de Namur (0-2) started their week on the road for an exhibition matchup against Santa Clara University on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The Argonauts are coming off a tough 2018-19 season, going 2-26 overall and 2-20 in conference play.

NDNU's Trevor Thompson leads their scoring attack with an 18.5 points per game average. Ajay Sing has pulled down 15 total rebounds over his first two appearances, adding on another 15.5 points a night.

WOU is 7-0 against NDNU dating back to 2006. In their most recent meeting on Nov. 25, 2017, the Wolves picked up a convincing 87-48 win.

Regis (2-0) will take on the host Concordia Cavaliers on Friday before facing off with Western Saturday afternoon. The Rangers opened the season with a pair of neutral site wins in Golden, Colo., but have not played since Nov. 9, coming into the weekend with the longest layoff for any of the four teams of the early season.

Regis has two players averaging double figures in scoring, led by the 14.0 of Tomas Auruskevicius. As a team, the Rangers are shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from 3-point range.

Saturday will represent the first-ever meeting between Western Oregon and Regis.

Both games are slated for a 5 p.m. PST tipoff at LCEF Court on the campus of Concordia University in Portland. Live stats and video will be available for all four games of the Concordia Oxford Suites Portland Classic here.
