Ty Currie Nominated for 2019 Harlon Hill Trophy

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Western Oregon University versatile senior quarterback Ty Currie has been nominated as one of the 36 candidates for the 2019 Harlon Hill Trophy for the Division II College Football Player of the Year.

"Ty put together a season to remember and being nominated for this award is certainly worthy with all the recognition and accolades he led us to this season," head coach Arne Ferguson said.

The sports information directors at the 167 NCAA Division II football-playing institutions nominate and vote on the award. The 36 initial candidates will be placed on regional ballots and the top two players from each of the four NCAA regions will advance to the national ballot when regional voting concludes on Monday, Dec. 2.

10 nominees hail from Super Region 1, four from Super Region 2, 10 from Super Region 3 and 12 from Super Region 4. Currie is one of 12 nominees from Super Region 4, which has the most of any region.

Nine times this season he rushed for at least 50 yards in a game, going for over 100 yards in three different games including a high of 178 in the game against Azusa Pacific to help clinch the share of the GNAC title for the first time in school history. Currie rushed for a touchdown in seven games, twice putting together a pair of three TD games against Central Washington and Texas A&M-Kingsville. He was named GNAC Player of the Week three times and also to the GNAC Academic Team. He also completed 140-256 for 2,397 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaging 217 yards per game and compiling a 152.09 passer rating. Six times this season he threw for over 200 yards, twice going over 300 yards with a season-high 314 against Simon Fraser. "This was a record-breaking season and Ty was a huge part of that. His ability to not just lead this team with his arm, but also his ability to create and pick up big yards on the ground made our team just that much more explosive. On top of that, he works hard off the field in the classroom and is a well-rounded student-athlete," Ferguson added.
