SAN FRANCISCO – The Western Oregon men's basketball teams heads to California this week, visiting San Francisco State for the four-team Gator Gobble tournament to take place Nov. 29 and 30. The Wolves take on the host Gators Friday before meeting Stanislaus State Saturday at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.
Western Oregon (3-0) stands as the last unbeaten team in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference as programs continue through their non-conference schedules. The Wolves have won by at least 11 in each of their last two games and eclipsed the 90-point threshold in both of those contests.
WOU is averaging 85.0 points a game this season, second only to Simon Fraser in the GNAC, while allowing just 72.7 points a night. WOU holds the top field goal percentage (53.4) and 3-point percentage (43.6) of GNAC teams, having hit 12 or more 3-pointers in consecutive games.
Dalven Brushier is one of three players in the GNAC averaging at least 20 points a game, holding a 21.0 points per game mark in three appearances. He is also averaging 37.7 minutes per night, the highest workload in the conference.
Four players are averaging double figures in scoring for WOU and six are playing at least 24 minutes a night.
Zach Baugher has been blistering hot from deep, hitting eight of his nine 3-point attempts this season. That includes going 5-for-6 last week against Regis.
San Francisco State (3-3) will be playing their first home game of the year against Western on Friday. The Gators most recently had their highest-scoring night of the year in a slim 89-88 victory over Cal State San Marcos.
SF State is averaging 75.0 points per game on 44.1 percent field goal shooting. They are shooting 32.9 percent from three and just 69.2 percent at the free throw line.
Friday will be just the second meeting between the Wolves and Gators and the first time they have played in San Francisco. In their lone meeting previously, the Gators captured a 99-93 triple overtime win in Monmouth on Nov. 18, 2016.
Stanislaus State (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday, falling short to Cal State Dominguez Hills in what has been the Warriors' only home game. Despite out-scoring CSDH in the second half, Stanislaus could not overcome an eight-point halftime deficit.
The Warriors have four players averaging at least 10 points a night, led by the 16.0 of Ty Davis. He is also averaging 4.8 rebounds per game and leads the team in assists (26) and steals (8). Davis has, however, fallen below his season average in scoring in each of his last two appearances.
WOU and Stanislaus State have played once previously. The Warriors won a double overtime battle, 99-96, on Nov. 20, 2004, in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Western's game Friday against the host Gators is set for 7 p.m. PST while their Saturday matchup with the Warriors will tip at 5 p.m. Both games will have live stats
