Softball adds Eastman, Fiedler, Soliz and Stewart to 2020 recruiting class

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University softball program recently signed eight new players to the 2020 recruiting class. The class was introduced in two different releases with this being the second. In this release, Alivia Eastman, Makaylah Fiedler, Erica Soliz and Hannah Stewart all have added their names to the recruiting class. Head coach Lonny Sargent and the Wolves are coming off of an impressive 2019 campaign tallying 33 wins, with 19 in conference and advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regionals nearly reaching Super Regionals.

Eastman is an infielder from Hillsboro, Ore., competing at Glencoe High School. Eastman has played both second and third base so far during her career at Glencoe as this past season she helped the team to a 23-6 season, including a perfect 12-0 league record, advancing to the third round of the state tournament. Eastman hit .367 with 36 hits, 29 RBI, four doubles, a home run and 29 scored while playing in all 29 games in 2019. She also showed the ability to steal a base swiping six bags and 15 so far in her career. Eastman also had a strong sophomore year in which she hit .333 with 19 hits, a double and seven RBI along with 17 runs scored. Over the course of her career she has played in 81 games and has 69 hits, 40 RBI, seven doubles and 61 runs scored. Eastman has helped lead the Glencoe Crimson Tide to three straight Conference titles while earning All-League honors each of the past two years as an infielder. She is set to be a four-year varsity starter and letterwinner this coming season and began her career leading the team as a freshman with a .560 on-base percentage and also led the team as a sophomore with a .526 on-base percentage. Eastman was voted by her teammates with the "Tide Pride" award this past year as a junior. Playing for the Oregon Thunder 18 Gold last summer she hit .434 and was an anchor at third base.

Fiedler is a utility player from Rocklin, Calif., competing at Rocklin High School. Fiedler helped lead Rocklin to a 16-9 record, including nine league victories this past season as the team reached the second round of the state tournament. Rocklin also reached the state tournament her freshman year in 2017. Fiedler has spent time playing catcher, first and third base and has performed well in the classroom holding a 3.85 GPA. Some of her competitive experience has been with the California Yard Sharks 18 Gold Price team since 2017, California Breeze Adams (2016-17), California Grapettes 14U LaGabed (2015-16) and the All-American Mizuno Bautista 12U and 14U (2014-15). Fiedler spent the past season on varsity as a junior after helping lead the junior varsity team to a pair of strong seasons including an undefeated run and ranked first in the Sierra Foothills League her freshman year. As a sophomore, she was a team captain and led the league in home runs. She was part of a team this past year on varsity that placed second in league and made it to the second round of the state playoffs. Fiedler has been a Scholar-Athlete all three seasons and received two Scholar-Athlete awards from the California YardSharks. In addition, she landed on the principal's honor role for six consecutive years.

Soliz is a pitcher from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., competing at Alta Loma High School. Soliz also played for the Southern California Eastside Firecrackers 18U team. She picked up 12 wins in the circle this past season for Alta Loma, posting 145 strikeouts and logging 152 innings in the circle. She also has proven she can hit in the box collecting a .435 average with 27 hits, nine home runs, a triple and 28 RBI along with 13 runs scored in 2019. Over the past three seasons Soliz has posted 63 hits, six doubles, three triples, 14 home runs, 57 RBI and 32 runs scored in 75 games. In the circle during that time she picked up 29 wins, 41 complete games, four shutouts, three saves, 328 strikeouts and has tossed 357.1 innings. She earned Renaissance honors all four years for her strong work in the classroom and holding a top GPA. On the field Soliz has earned letters every year since freshman on varsity, as she took home the Coach's award freshman year, was named the MVP and to first team All-League sophomore year and this past year, Soliz was named the Offensive Player of the Year, as well as to the first team All-League as a junior.

Stewart is an outfielder from Oregon City, Ore., competing at Oregon City High School. Stewart plays with fellow WOU recruit Isabelle Lewis as the two helped lead Oregon City into the first round of the state tournament this past year. During her sophomore season, Oregon City advanced deep into the state playoffs advancing to the fourth round after picking up 22 victories and 11 in league play. Stewart's career started out strong as a freshman when the team tallied 25 wins in 2017, including a 13-1 mark in league play as they advanced to the fourth round of the state playoffs. Stewart was a three-year varsity letterwinner, three-year starter in the outfield and also earned All-League honorable mention accolades.

Eastman, Fiedler, Soliz and Stewart join Nicki Derrick, Isabelle Lewis, Karly Tiedeman and Natalie Willoughby in the 2020 recruiting class.
