NAMPA, Idaho—
One favorite backed up his ranking while another pulled off a win from the No. 2-seed as Western Oregon crowned two champions at the GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Backing up his pre-meet rankings, Cody Warner claimed the conference's title in the 60-meter dash while Justin Crosswhite made it four straight victories for WOU in the men's mile.

The WOU men collected 55 points to place sixth overall as a team. The women's squad tallied 29 points for seventh place. In all, the WOU track & field teams earned seven All-GNAC accolades while scoring in 11 additional events.

After earning silver in the 60 in 2016 and taking third place in 2015, Warner completed his set by reaching the top of the podium for gold in his senior campaign. Warner, the top-ranked sprinter in the GNAC with a season-best 6.99, matched his preliminary time on Friday with a 7.01 in the final to claim the meet title. Teammate Codi Blodgett placed eighth in the dash for an additional point in the team tally.

Justin Crosswhite made it four straight wins by a Western Oregon runner in the men's mile by holding off Simon Fraser's Drew Johnson, 4:13.86 to 4:14.45. Crosswhite held a season-best of 4:10.47 set last week in Michigan for the No. 2-ranked time in the GNAC this season. Hunter Hutton and Tyler Jones placed sixth and seventh in the mile, respectively, for five additional team points. In his first collegiate attempt in the distance, Hutton finished with a 4:19.32 while Jones clocked a 4:19.69.

Western Oregon placed second overall in both 800 races as Olivia Woods and Curt Knott grabbed silver in the event. Woods was edged at the line by SFU's Addy Townsend, who won the duel by .01 with a 2:10.12 to Woods' 2:10.13.

Holding the top time in the field this season and posting the fastest prelim time on Friday, Knott settled for second place with a 1:55.06. Western Washington's Kyler Sager topped the final with a 1:53.29. WOU's Max Carmona picked up additional points with a fourth-place result at 1:56.00.

The Wolves also received points in both competitions of the 400 as Gabe Arce-Torres ran a 50.19 for sixth place and Grayson Burke a 58.28 for seventh place.

Cutting more than 30 seconds off of her previous best time, Kaylin Cantu crushed her career best in the 3,000 with a 10:41.16. Cantu placed second in the opening section and 12th overall in the event. Her time places the freshman at No. 10 all-time on WOU's indoor performance list.

Closing out the meet, both 1,600-meter relay teams reached the podium with third-place finishes. The women clocked a season-best 3:54.61 to claim the No. 3 time in school history.
Also hitting a season-best time, the men crossed in 3:20.66 to jump into the No. 9 position on WOU's al-time indoor performance list.

A day after scoring in the weight throw, Moana Gianotti finished one spot shy of scoring with a ninth-place result in the shot put to highlight action in the field events.

Ana Popchock and Mitchell Kruse also registered 10th-place finishers for the Wolves on Saturday. Popchock landed with a 35-4 (10.77m) in the triple jump while Kruse tallied a career-best 3,833 points in the heptathlon to crack the top 10.

Western Oregon will get one more opportunity to add NCAA DII National Championship qualifiers while competing at the SPU Last Chance meet on Feb. 23. The DII Indoor Championships will take place March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan.
