Volleyball Travels to Portland to Open GNAC Play Against Concordia on Tuesday

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Western Oregon University volleyball team closed the Division II West Region Showcase strong recording a pair of sweeps and now enter Great Northwest Athletic Conference play this Tuesday when they travel back to Portland to face Concordia starting at 7 p.m.

It will be the first of two conference games this week as the Wolves will also travel to Montana to face MSU Billings on Saturday night.

Last time out, WOU (2-5) cruised to the 3-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur collecting 39 kills in the process, while limiting the Argonauts to a .091 hitting percentage. Sianna DeCarli led the offense with nine kills, Emily West spun in two service aces, Aubrey Stanton had 19 assists and Allie Spear added eight digs.

Through seven non-conference games the Wolves have 236 kills and are hitting .190, while opponents have 272 kills and are hitting .239. Assists (225 for WOU to 244 opponents), digs favor the opposition (265-228), while blocks are close with WOU posting 33 to 34 for opponents.

DeCarli leads the way in points tallying 74.5 with 67 kills and 13 total blocks. Allyson Crisp has added 49.5 points with 35 kills, 10 digs and 17 blocks. Sarah Crowell rounds out the three with at least 41 points checking right in at 41 with 34 kills, 17 digs and four blocks. Lauren Smith adds 32 kills and Kimmie Bain has 30 kills. Stanton has 164 assists, averaging 7.13 per set. She also leads the team in service aces with six. Spear leads the defense in digs with 68, while three players average at lead 10 blocks with Delaney Smith rounding out the three in double-figures with 10.

Last year, Concordia swept both meetings taking the first in Monmouth 3-1 and then later a 3-0 win in Portland. Since 2000, the teams have played 10 times with Concordia going 10-0 during that span. The teams played a five-set match back in 2013 in Monmouth. The last four meetings in Portland have been 3-0 decisions, with only the first meeting in Portland going four sets.

The Cavaliers are 2-5 on the season as well as they dropped their first five matches of the season before winning the last two games against Dominican (CA), 3-0, and Fresno Pacific, 3-1, this past weekend. Concordia faced the same three teams that WOU played to start the season in the tournament Concordia hosted in Portland falling in five sets to both Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona, around being swept by MSU Denver.

Concordia has 325 kills, 302 assists, 484 digs and 40 total blocks. Opponents have tallied 352 kills, 331 assists, 473 digs and 53 blocks. Jessica Wheeler has posted 74 kills, while adding 60 digs and seven blocks. Camille Guerrero has 60 kills and Katelyn Brandenburg adds 50 kills.
