A new-look roster, along with a new coaching staff has Western Oregon recharged for the new season. The roster features just one senior in transfer Allyson Crisp who recently played at Eastern Oregon. Three juniors will be on the roster in returner Sianna DeCarli along with newcomers Allie Spear and Kazja Fa'agata-Averbuck. Spear stays in the state after playing at GNAC foe Concordia (Ore.), while Fa'agata-Averbuck arrives from Santa Rosa JC. A handful of sophomores are on the team this year in returners Aubrey Stanton, Juliana Cameron and Descinda Slaughter. Joining them will be Delaney Smith from Chemeketa CC and Mikayla Seiler from Palomar CC. Krista Omlid returns as a redshirt freshman, while the rest of the roster is made up of nine freshmen. First up, WOU will go against MSU Denver out of the RMAC as the teams have faced each other four times since 2009 with the Roadrunners winning all four meetings. The closest was a five-set match in 2013 that was played in Monmouth. This will be the second time the teams have faced each other in Portland with the last meeting coming in 2016. MSU Denver went 21-10 last year advancing to the NCAA Tournament first round. Alyssa Kelling is the top offensive returner with 189 kills a season ago. The top-three offensive players in terms of kills all graduated last year. Setter Jesse Megenhardt is back after leading the team with 552 assists and is also the top returner on defense in terms of digs with 185 as the other three top marks have graduated. Kayla White is the top returner in blocks having sent back 50 last year, with the top-three also gone from last year's team in that category as well.

Cal Poly Pomona went 24-6 last year advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to GNAC opponent Western Washington. Since 2000, the teams have faced each other nine times with Cal Poly Pomona holding a 7-2 advantage. The Broncos have won the last five meetings, with the last meeting taking place in 2014 with Cal Poly Pomona surviving with the 3-2 win. The last WOU win occurred in 2003 in Monmouth with the Wolves taking the 3-1 victory. The top-four offensive threats are gone from last season leaving Ally Wilder as the top returner with 162 kills last year. Setter Kira Zimmerman is back after dishing out 1,140 assists a season ago. She is also the top returner in digs with 217, with the top-four players in that category not back this season. Wilder is the top returner in blocks tallying 36, with the top-three in blocks not back this season.

The final meeting of the tournament will be against Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday. Last year, the Otters went 16-10 falling in the first round of the CCAA Conference Tournament. WOU and Cal State Monterey Bay have faced each other only once since 2008 with the Wolves taking the 3-1 win in California. Top offensive threat Jenna Tobin returns after leading the team with 272 kills a year ago. The team will be looking for a new setter as Erica Chapa dished out 881 of the 1,093 assists a year ago and isn't on the roster for 2019. Tobin is also the top returner in terms of digs at 265, behind Ashlynne Armstrong's 395 who isn't on the team for 2019. With top blocker Chandler McKean gone after leading the team with 79, Samantha Brennan returns after sending back 56 blocks a season ago.
