NAMPA, Idaho – Having already put together several strong performances this indoor season, the Western Oregon University track and field teams will now travel to Idaho to compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday.
WOU will have 18 student-athletes entered on the women's side competing in 35 events, while the Wolves will send 27 student-athletes on the men's side competing in 46 events.
Beginning with the women's entries, Maya Hopwood will be set to compete in the 60-meter and 200-meter. She is coming off of her best overall performance in terms of the times she posted in both events this past weekend in Boise. The freshman speedster continued to set her own school record in the 60 when she collected a time of 7.58 in the preliminaries. She went on to win the event in the final with a time of 7.69. Her 200 time nearly set a new school mark when she clocked a time of 25.17 in the preliminaries, which is just short (25.16) of the current school record. Hopwood went on to place third in the finals. Her converted 55-meter time from the first meet of the indoor season back in December at the Candy Cane Open, when converted to 60-meter, gives her a time of 7.57 which is good for a tie for 16th currently in all of Division II.
Grace Knapp will compete in the 3k and the distance medley relay. In mid-January, the senior ran a top time of 10:03.05 in the 3k at the UW Preview which placed her 46th. The week after that at the UW Invitational, Knapp again ran a new personal best, this time in the 5k when she crossed at under 17 minutes with a time of 16:59.24, to place her second in the school record books. That time in the 5k ranks her 19th in all of Division II.
Jenelle Hurley has competed in just about everything so far this season and will enter into the high jump, long jump and pentathlon. The freshman has seen action in the high jump, long jump, 200 and 60-meter hurdles this year. Some of her top marks include reaching a height of 5-3 in the high jump and 17-10.75 in the long jump. She also ran to a time of 27.09 in the 200 and 9.63 in the 60-meter hurdles, with three of the times coming at the first University of Portland Indoor Meet and the high jump mark coming at the University of Washington.
Kalulusno Ngaida has made a strong impact in her first season as the junior transfer is set to compete in the high jump and triple jump. This past weekend in the Husky Classic, she reached a new mark in the triple jump scaling 37-7.25. She then won the high jump with a new season-best distance of 5-5.25 at the second University of Portland indoor meet.
Ana Popchock will compete in three events including 60-meter hurdles, 4x400 relay and 200-meter. So far this indoor season, the sophomore posted a recent best mark of 27.33 in the 200 at the second Portland Indoor Meet. Her top time this season in the 60-meter hurdles occurred at the first Portland Indoor Meet with a time of 9.36. That's just off her personal best of 9.34. Popchock also ran in the 4x400 at the Portland Indoor first meet coming in with a time of 4:13.00.
Moana Gianotti has set new marks this year in both events she is set to enter in the weight throw and shotput. Her top mark in the weight throw came during the Portland Indoor second meet reaching a distance of 49-9. The junior also set a new personal best in the shot put at the UW Invitational with a distance of 44-9.
Jillian Greene will enter into the mile, 4x400 and distance medley relay. Greene has entered in the mile, 600 and 4x400 so far this season. The freshman's best time in the mile came during the first visit to Portland with a time of 5:10.79. She also was part of the 4x400 relay team that grabbed a time of 4:13.00 in that same meet. Her top 600 time came at the UW Preview crossing at 1:39.79.
Michaela Yonkman is also set to compete in three different events in the distance medley relay, 4x400 and 400-meter. So far this season, the sophomore has competed at both of the Portland Indoor Meets with her top time in the 60-meter hurdles coming at the second Portland Meet with a time of 10.02 and a top time in the 400 during the first Portland Meet with a time of 1:03.90. She was part of the 4x400 relay that posted a time of 4:13.00 during the first visit to Portland.
Grayson Burke will be involved with both the distance medley relay and the 4x400 relay. She was part of the 4x400 relay team that clocked a time of 4:12.09 during the UW Preview. The senior has also competed in the 800-meter coming in with a time of 2:24.42 at the second Portland Indoor Meet.
Logan Jackson is set to compete in the 4x400 relay and the 200-meter. The sophomore was part of the 4x400 relay team that posted a time of 4:13 during the first Portland Indoor Meet. She clocked a time of 27.01 during her only try in the 200 also at the first Portland Indoor Meet. Jackson ran her top time in the 60-meter also at the first Portland Indoor Meet coming in at 8.24.
Makenzie Smith will enter into the pentathlon and the high jump. The junior competed at the first Portland Indoor Meet coming in with her personal-best times of 29.62 in the 200 and 10.99 in the 60-meter hurdles. Her best high jump mark came at the Candy Cane Open reaching a height of 4-9. She also competed in the pentathlon at Eastern Washington where she collected 2,769 points to come in eight overall. Her top finish was in the high jump reaching a distance of 5-0.25 to come in fourth.
Bethanie Altamirano will compete in the 400-meter and the 4x400 relay. The sophomore has entered into two meets so far this season running in the 4x400 during the UW Preview that came in with a time of 4:12.09. She then ran the 400 in the first Portland Indoor Meet coming in with a time of 1:03.52. Her personal best time in the 400 came at last year's GNAC Indoor Championships when she posted a time of 58.61.
Sarra Soladey will be the last of the group to enter into multiple events as she will compete in the 4x400 relay and the 400-meter. So far this season, the junior has competed at both the Portland Indoor Meets, with her top time this year in the 200 coming during the second Portland Meet with a time of 27.44. She also ran in the 400 during the first Portland Meet crossing at 1:04.34.
Kaylin Cantu will compete in the 5k. The sophomore has run in the 3k twice so far this season with a top time of 10:36.35 during the second Portland Indoor Meet. She ran the 5k during last year's outdoor season with her best time of 18:04.46 coming at the Willamette Invitational.
Olivia Jimenez will compete in the 800-meter. The junior had a top time in the 800 during the second Portland Indoor Meet with a time of 2:26.78. She also ran in the 400 coming in wit ha time of 1:04.92 during the first Portland Meet and in the mile at the UW Preview with a time of 5:59.65.
Lyndee McLauchlin will compete in the high jump. The freshman recently set a new season best in the high jump during the second Portland Indoor Meet reaching a height of 4-11.5. She also ran in the 60-meter at both Portland Meets, with her top time of 8.60 coming in the first Portland Meet.
Darian Wilson will compete in the long jump. The junior competed in the long jump during the first Portland Meet reaching a distance of 16-11.25. Her top mark in the long jump came during the 2018 outdoor season when she reached a mark of 18-3.
Kaylee Wright is set to compete in the high jump. The freshman set a season best in the high jump during the second Portland Meet reaching a mark of 5-1.25. She has also competed in the 60 and 200, with a top time on the 60 of 8.47 coming at the UW Preview and her top time in the 200 of 28.32 coming at the first Portland Meet.
As for the men's entries, Derek Holdsworth will compete in the 800-meter and the distance medley relay. The senior continues to hold the top time in Division II in the 800 when he burned to a school record and GNAC top-mark of 1:47.74 to win the UW Invitational. The next closest time is 1:48.94. He has also competed in both the 4x400 coming in with a time of 3:19.47 at the UW Preview and the DMR at the UW Invitational with a time of 9:52.02 that won the event.
Justin Crosswhite will compete in the mile. The senior continued to improve his mile mark this past weekend when he collected a new personal best time of 4:04.36 at the Husky Classic. That time is good for second in the WOU and GNAC record books, while his time is seventh best in all of Division II. He also ran part of the DMR during the UW Invitational when the team clocked a time of 9:52.02.
Dominique Loggins is set to compete in the 60-meter. The freshman, who is also a member of the WOU football team, set the 60 on fire when he crossed with a time of 6.98 to win the Portland Indoor Meet event. That was his first event he has competed in so far this season.
Gabe Arce-Torres is set to compete in the 4x400 relay and the 400-meter. Arce-Torres has a top time this indoor season of 49.48 in the 400 that came at the UW Invitational. His top time overall in the 400 came during the GNAC Outdoor Championships last year with a time of 48.93. The junior has run in both relays this year coming in with a time of 3:19.47 in the 4x400 at the UW Preview and then a time of 9:52.02 in the DMR at the UW Invitational.
Adam Alnazer is entered into three events including the distance medley relay, 800-meter and the mile. The senior ran to a personal best time of 4:25.06 during the first Portland Indoor Meet. He also ran in the 800 during the UW Preview crossing with a time of 1:55.91. His top time in the 800 came during last year's outdoor season coming in at 1:54.26.
Max Carmona is set to compete in the 400-meter and 800-meter. The senior ran to a personal best so far this season in the 600 at the UW Preview with a time of 1:22.37. He competed in the 800 at the UW Invitational crossing with a time of 1:54.42. He also ran on the DMR that crossed at 9:52.02 to win the event and the 4x400 relay that had a time of 3:24.75 to win the Portland Indoor first meet. His best time in the 800 came during last year's outdoor season wit ha time of 1:53.07 at the Portland Twilight. His best time in the 400 came during last year' outdoor season at the Willamette Opener with a time of 51.05.
Sam Cole is set to compete in the shot put and weight throw. The senior has a top weight throw so far this season of 50-6 that came at the second Portland Indoor Meet. His best shot put mark came during last year's GNAC Outdoor Championships with a distance of 48-6.75.
Karsten Collins is entered into both the weight throw and shot put. The junior had a top weight throw of 51-0.25 during the second Portland Indoor Meet. His best shot put mark was during last year's outdoor home meet of the John Knight Twilight when his throw reached 47-2.5.
Owen Collins is set to enter with both Sam and Karsten in the weight throw and shot put. The junior reached a new personal best in the weight throw during the first Portland Indoor Meet when his toss made it to 51-9. His best shot put was during last year's outdoor season when he reached 48-10 at the Cougar Open.
Neal Cranston will enter into the 4x400 relay and 800-meter. The senior grabbed a new personal best this season in the 400 during the second Portland Indoor Meet with a time of 52.75. His top time in the 800 came at the UW Invitational with a time of 1:54.99. He also was part of the 4x400 team that finished third at the second Portland Meet with a time of 3:31.31. Cranston also ran in the DMR that clocked a time of 10:09.45 at the UW Invitational. His top time in the 800 came during the 2018 outdoor season at the Linfield Open with a time of 1:52.61.
Lashaun Emile will compete in the mile. The junior was part of the 4x400 relay so far this season that came in with a time of 3:19.47 at the UW Preview. During last year's GNAC Indoor Championships, he competed in the 400 coming in with his personal best time of 50.63 and also ran in the 4x400 that placed third.
Stephen Fey will compete in the 4x400 relay. The senior has run in the 800 this year with a best time of 2:00.80 during the second Portland Indoor Meet. He also was part of the 4x400 relay that placed fifth with a time of 3:36.73 during the first Portland Meet.
Jarren Ford will enter into the 800-meter and 200-meter. The freshman, also part of the WOU football team, ran in the 60 during the second Portland Indoor Meet crossing with a time of 7.43.
Dominic Giordano is entered into the 3k. The senior ran at both of the Portland Indoor Meets, posting his best time in the 3k during the first Portland Meet coming in with a time of 8:49.91.
Aaron Hanible is entered into the distance medley relay and the 4x400 relay. The sophomore hasn't competed so far this indoor season, as he ran during the 2018 indoor season in the 4x400 coming in with a time of 3:23.31. He also competed in the 60-meter hurdles that year posting a top time of 8.85 during the UW Preview.
Devin Hasher will enter in the high jump. The junior reached a season best mark of 6-3.5 in the high jump during the second Portland Indoor Meet which helped him place third.
Sawyer Heckard will enter into both the 3k and 5k. The senior competed at both Portland Indoor Meets posting a time of 8:56.11 in the 3k during the second Portland Meet. His best time in the 5k came at last year's outdoor season at the Mike Fanelli Classic with a time of 15:28.56. His best time in the 3k came during last year's indoor final qualifier at Seattle Pacific crossing with a time of 8:54.74.
Hunter Hutton will competed in the mile and distance medley relay. The sophomore competed once in the mile so far this season coming in with a time of 4:14.79 at the Husky Classic this past weekend. He's also competed in the 800 with a top time of 1:56.37 at the UW Preview and in the DMR that posted a time of 10:09.45 at the UW Invitational. His best time in the mile came during last year's Seattle Pacific Final Indoor Qualifier with a time of 4:14.44.
Zach Kanelis is entered into the 800-meter and the 4x400 relay. The senior has a top time so far this season in the 800 of 1:56.61 at the second Portland Indoor Meet. He also ran in the 4x400 in that same meet that clocked a time of 3:31.31. He ran a personal best time in the mile during the first Portland Indoor Meet of 4:29.71. His best 800 time came during last year's outdoor season when he clocked a time of 1:54.31 at the Portland Twilight.
Emmett Klus is entered into the mile and distance medley relay. The freshman ran to a top time in the mile during the second Portland Indoor Meet when he crossed at 4:22.00. He also competed in the DMR during the UW Invitational coming in with a time of 10:09.45.
Mitch Kruse will compete in the heptathlon. The sophomore competed at last year's GNAC Indoor Championships in the heptathlon and came in 10th with 3,833 points. His top finish was in the mile when he crossed in 2:52.20 to come in seventh.
Hunter Mosman will compete in the 3k. The senior has run in the 3k twice so far this season with his top time of 8:41.83 coming at the first Portland Indoor Meet.
Trey Reed is entered into the 800-meter. The junior has competed in the 800, 4x400 and DMR so far this season with his top time in the 800 of 1:56.17 coming at the UW Preview. He was also part of the DMR team that ran to 10:09.45 at the UW Invitational and the 4x400 that clocked 3:24.75 at the first Portland Indoor Meet. His top time in the 800 came at last year's GNAC Outdoor Championships when he crossed at 1:54.87.
Nick Sieber will compete in the weight throw and shot put. The senior set a new personal best during the second Portland Indoor Meet in the shot put when his throw reached a distance of 50-0.75. So far this season, his best weight throw of 48-10.25 came during the first Portland Indoor Meet. Sieber's top throw in the weight throw came during the 2018 season at the UW Open when his throw reached 50-8.25.
Brennen Sorah will compete in the 60-meter hurdles and heptathlon. The freshman has competed in three meets so far this season posting his top mark in the 800 this past meet at the Boise State Challenge with a time of 2:15.00. He also set a top mark in the long jump of 19-3.5 in the same meet. He set a pair of top marks at the first Portland Indoor Meet coming in with a time of 7.42 in the 60-meter and then a time of 8.74 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Deshaun Stevens will enter into the long jump and heptathlon. The junior reached a new time of 9.68 this season in the 60-meter hurdles at the second Portland Indoor Meet, a time of 7.76 in the 60-meter at the first Portland indoor Meet and a distance of 21-2 in the long jump. He also ran in the 4x400 during the first Portland meet crossing with a time of 3:24.75.
Jake Thompson will enter into the long jump and heptathlon. The freshman ran in the 60-meter hurdles during the second Portland Indoor Meet posting a time of 10.09 and also has a top distance in the long jump of 21-0.5 coming at the first Portland Indoor Meet. He also ran in the 4x400 during that same meet clocking a time of 3:36.73.
