Volleyball adds game-changer Faitau to recruiting class

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Anuhea Faitau played on one of the top teams in the Las Vegas area and recently added her name to the 2020 Western Oregon University volleyball recruiting class.

"We had been recruiting Anuhea for quite some time so when she committed we were super excited," head coach Stacy Metro said. "Not only does she have the physical skills to be a program changer but her infectious personality and work ethic will be a valuable asset to our program. We cannot wait to get her on the court."

The 5-foot-9 setter/opposite helped lead Durango High School to a 34-8 record her senior year as she played in 116 sets, tallying 1,032 assists, 250 digs, 64 kills and 29 service aces. Faitau was a regular on the team since freshman year, playing right away in 94 sets during the 2016 season. In her first season, she tallied 207 digs, 71 service aces and 98 kills. Faitau has showcased the entire skillset that she is more than just an assist machine, as she had a career-high 137 kills as a junior as that season she played in 91 sets. While her best service season was her first, she followed that with 60 as a sophomore in playing 96 sets. Faitau also has added blocks over the years, piling up 20 as a sophomore and a career-high 21 as a senior. Picking up digs started right away as in three of her four seasons she went for over 200 digs, collecting a career-high 250 as a senior, which followed a 234-dig effort as a junior. Her assist game took a huge jump as a senior, as she had back-to-back seasons of over 350 assists with 386 as a sophomore and 365 as a junior before her over 1,000 helpers in her final year.

Faitau was a regular on the All-Region and All-League teams as following her freshman season she was named to the First Team All-Conference squad. Faitau went on to being named All-Conference all four seasons, as she was also awarded as the top setter in the state after the 2016-17 season. She also played for the club team Nevada Juniors 18s as the starting setter. Not only did she have impressive numbers on the court, but she held a 3.25 GPA throughout her high school career. Durango, one of the top-ranked teams in the state of Nevada, not only won 34 games in Faitau's final season, but went 27-8 her junior year, 24-12 her sophomore year and 20-17 her freshman year.
