Nowatzke and Wheeler Earn GNAC Player of the Week Awards

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Following an undefeated week for the Western Oregon University women's soccer team, both Lilly Nowatzke and Emily Wheeler were named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Players of the Week for their performances on Monday.

WOU went 1-0-1 on the week that started with a big upset win over #7 Seattle Pacific scoring a 1-0 victory in overtime. The Wolves then battled back against Montana State Billings to tie the game in the second half and eventually finish in a 1-1 draw.

Nowatzke tallied the golden goal in the big overtime win for WOU against #7 Seattle Pacific during the first OT. After getting a great cross pass in the box from Chloe Smith, Nowatzke was able to just get a piece of the ball to knock it home for the winning goal in the 96th minute of a 1-0 contest. Overall for the week, she played 166 minutes and recorded four shots.


Wheeler came up strong in goal over the two games this week to help WOU to an undefeated week. In the upset win over #7 Seattle Pacific, Wheeler came up with four saves in the 1-0 shutout overtime victory. In helping the Wolves to a 1-1 draw with Montana State Billings, Wheeler made five saves in playing all 110 minutes. For the week, Wheeler played over 205 minutes and made nine saves.


WOU enters the week 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in GNAC play, they will travel to Ellensburg to face Central Washington this Thursday night at 7 p.m., before closing the trip on Saturday afternoon at Northwest Nazarene beginning at 1 p.m. (Pacific).
