CORVALLIS, Ore. – Following a strong start to the outdoor season earlier in the week, the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams continued with the momentum right into the meet Saturday at the PNW Team Clash. Taking a full squad for the first time this season, the Wolves claimed four event wins and several other top marks.
Austin Goldstein won the men's javelin hitting a mark of 183-06 as he saved his best throw for last hitting his top mark on his sixth toss. Aaron Hanible claimed the event win in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.00. He also set a new PR in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.87 to come in fifth. Emmett Klus picked up the win in the men's 800 posting a time of 1:56.84. Justin Crosswhite added to the event wins as he crossed first in the men's 1,500 with a time of 3:54.82. Dominic Giordano also came in first in the men's 3,000 steeple with a time of 9:37.76, but was the only competitor in the event.
Maya Hopwood moved up to ninth on the WOU all-time outdoor record list in the women's 100 when she crossed in second with a time of 12.28. Having run a first indoor season last year, this was the first outdoor event for Hopwood with the Wolves.
Kaylee Wright reached an NCAA Division II Provisional Mark in the women's javelin hitting a distance of 141-10 on her final throw. Overall, she placed fourth in the event.
Jalon Fields jumped to a new PR in the men's triple jump hitting a distance of 47-03.00 which occurred on his first jump. Keanu Daos also added a new PR shattering his previous mark in the men's 5,000 crossing in third with a time of 15:07.68.
Caitlin Heldt won section two of the women's 1,500 and overall placed sixth with a time of 4:50.77.
Jarren Ford claimed a top-five finish in the men's 100-meter dash coming in fourth with a time of 11.21.
Michaela Yonkman came in second in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.70. Shayla Solomon also added a second-place finish in the women's 800 with a time of 2:20.32.
In addition to Klus winning the men's 800, Tim Rambo had a strong first event with the Wolves coming in fourth with a time of 1:57.76. Trey Reed came in fifth in the event with a time of 1:59.42.
In the women's 1,500, as following Heldt's sixth-place finish, Ashley Hauger set a new PR in the event with a time of 4:59.20 to come in 11th. Kaiya Leamy also entered her first event with the women's coming in 17th with a time of 5:24.62.
Adam Alnazer just missed setting a new PR in the men's 1,500 when he crossed with a time of 4:02.74 to come in fourth.
Karsten Collins came in second in the men's discus with a throw of 140-07 and he also placed third in the men's hammer hitting a mark of 145-02.
Moana Gianotti came in fourth in the women's discus with a throw of 131-07. She added a distance of 40-08.25 in the women's shot put to place sixth and also competed in the women's hammer hitting a mark of 144-06 to place 11th.
Liliana Lyness also entered in the women's hammer throwing a distance of 122-06 to place 17th.
Sam Cole had strong showings in both the men's hammer and men's shot put. He placed second in the hammer with a throw of 159-05 and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 45-00.25.
Owen Collins threw in both the men's hammer and men's shot put. He came in second in the shot put reaching a distance of 47-05.75 and then placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 140-01.
Lyndee McLauchlin and Krystal Andres also threw in the women's javelin making their debuts with McLauchlin coming in ninth with a throw of 124-07 and Andres came in 10th with a throw of 106-08.
Marley Harrison came away with a pair of strong third-place finishes in both the men's long jump and men's triple jump. He hit a mark of 20-07.00 in the long jump and then hit a distance of 44-02.75 in the triple jump.
In the relays, the men's 4x400 (Hanible, Klus, Rambo, Eli Nafziger) came in second with a time of 3:31.16 and the women's 4x400 (Rilee Carstensen, Solomon, Hauger, Yonkman) placed fourth crossing with a time of 4:12.90.
WOU will return to action next Saturday (March 20) when they will host Humboldt State and Oregon State in a Tri-Meet.
