Soccer to Face Saint Martin’s and Northwest Nazarene on Upcoming Road Trip

LACEY, Wash./NAMPA, Idaho – It will be a familiar opponent for the Western Oregon University soccer team this Thursday when they will face Saint Martin's for the second straight time, only this time on the road in Lacey. The Wolves will then close the road trip traveling to Idaho to face Northwest Nazarene on Monday.

The Saints and Wolves played each other in Monmouth this past Thursday (Mar. 18) when WOU claimed the 3-2 victory. The Wolves came out on fire to start the game getting a goal in the second minute from Alyssa Tomasini. WOU made it 2-0 just over six minutes later when Camille Darland buried a free kick in the eighth minute. Right before the half, Piper Matson pushed the lead to 3-0 scoring what would turn out to be the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute.

Saint Martin's made a strong push in the second half, scoring their first goal in the 76th minute and then adding another in the 83rd minute. Emily Wheeler and the defense then kept the Saints from scoring on a few chances over the closing minutes to take the win.
WOU held the edge in shots (12-8) and on goal (5-4), dominating the first half in shots (9-1).

Tomasini led the offense with three shots, landing two on goal. Her first shot of the game found the back of the net and then her second attempt hit the crossbar. Matson had one shot and she made it count, collecting the third goal of the game right before halftime. Chloe Smith added two shots, while Gabby Pulliam and Lilly Nowatzke each had a shot.

In goal, Morgan Mihelich started and played the entire first half facing only one shot. In the second half, Wheeler faced seven shots, making five saves.
