Box Score MEDFORD, Ore. – Yet another big second half helped power the Western Oregon University soccer team to a win. Even at one at the break, the Wolves outscored Humboldt State 3-0 in the second half to cruise to the 4-1 win Sunday in a neutral site game that was played in Medford that was counted as an exhibition contest.
Alyssa Tomasini opened the scoring in the 10th minute when she buried a goal off an assist by Gabby Pulliam. It was just the start to a big day all-around for Tomasini.
Humboldt State picked up their only goal of the game in the 23rd minute cashing in on a penalty kick goal.
Tomasini then opened the second half just like she started the game collecting another goal in what would turn out to be the game-winner. Tomasini got loose inside the box and finished off an assist by Piper Matson in the 53rd minute for the 2-1 advantage.
Pulliam, having helped setup an earlier goal for Tomasini, again served up another assist to help Tomasini record the hat trick. Off a corner kick from Pulliam in the 77th minute, Tomasini headed the kick into the goal for the 3-1 lead to record her hat trick.
Lilly Nowatzke finished the scoring in the 86th minute when she tallied her first collegiate goal off an assist by Matson near the center of the box to put home the fourth goal of the game for the Wolves and to provide the final margin of 4-1.
WOU finished the game with 13 total shots, picking up six in the first half and seven more in the second half. Tomasini led the way with five shots.
Tomasini finished the game with three goals to collect the hat trick, while Nowatzke picked up her first collegiate goal. Matson and Pulliam each added two assists.
In goal, Morgan Mihelich started and went the first 30 minutes picking up a save and allowing a goal. Kendall Rooney went the next 30 minutes and collected the win. Emily Wheeler finished the game going the final 30 minutes and was solid in net coming away with four saves.
WOU will travel to Seattle Pacific this coming Friday and Saturday to play a pair of games against the Falcons with both matches starting at 3 p.m.
