EUGENE, Ore. – Top results were all around the track and field on Friday for the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams during day one of the Lane Invite in Eugene on Friday.
Keola Yadao opened his Wolves career in style running to a first-place time of 10.62 in the men's 100-meter. That time leaves him just short of the provisional time (10.57) and moves him to fifth in the WOU record books. Dominique Loggins ran to fourth in the event coming in at 10.88 and Eli Nafziger placed 18th.
Moana Gianotti continued to improve on her season-best marks in the women's discus, hammer throw and shot put. Having posted season-best distances in all three last week at John Knight Twilight, she came back this week to improve on all three. Gianotti placed second in the discus with a distance of 135-02. In the hammer, she set a new personal-best distance of 153-03 to come in fourth. In the shot put, her distance of 41-01.75 placed her second.
Kaylee Wright led four Wolves in the women's javelin when her throw reached 134-02 to win the event. Krystal Andres was the next one to place for the Wolves coming in third with a mark of 122-10. Lyndee McLauchlin was just a little further back with a throw of 121-00 to come in fourth. Darian Wilson came in fifth to round out the group for the Wolves.
Owen Collins won the men's shot put hitting a distance of 47-08.50. He came in fifth in the discus with a mark of 133-06 and seventh in the hammer hitting a mark of 146-01.
Ana Popchock led three Wolves in the women's 110-hurdles when she crossed in third with a time of 15.63. Michaela Yonkman was right behind with a time of 15.93 to cross in fifth. Rilee Carstensen came in seventh with a time of 16.24.
Lauren Berry continued to hit another new personal-best distance in the women's long jump when she reached 16-09.25 to come in fourth. In the triple jump, Berry added another new personal-best distance of 31-07.25 to also place fourth.
Aaron Hanible was close once again to his top time in the men's 110-meter hurdles when he came in sixth with a time of 15.95.
Timothy Rambo led six Wolves in the men's 1,500 when he came in sixth with a time of 4:07.25. Dustyn McKenney came in eighth with a time of 4:10.59 and Adam Alnazer gave WOU three in the top-10 when he came in ninth with a time of 4:10.70. Talon Aguilar placed 13th, Cedar Davis-Frankfort came in 20th and Dominic Manzo came in 23rd.
Lindie Larson paced three Wolves in the women's 1,500 coming in sixth with a time of 5:15.48. Tresai McCarver came in 11th and Shannon Smith came in 12th.
Kaiya Leamy entered in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase for the first time this outdoor season coming in second.
Karsten Collins finished behind his brother Owen in the men's discus placing sixth with a throw of 131-0. He also came in sixth in the shot put (42-08.0) and placed 12th in the hammer throw.
Andres also threw in the women's discus coming in seventh.
Liliana Lyness-Morales came in fifth in the women's hammer with a throw of 136-07, while Wright came in ninth.
Sam Cole led the Wolves in the men's hammer throw hitting a distance of 155-11 to come in third. Karsten Collins also competed with Cole and his brother Owen in the hammer coming in 12th.
Devin Hasher reached a height of 6-04.75 to come in second in the men's high jump. Brennen Sorah, returning to competition for the first time this outdoor season, came in fourth with a jump of 6-00.75. Nafziger came in sixth with a height of 5-08.75. Antonio Robledo rounded out the competitors for the Wolves when he placed eighth.
Jalon Fields led the Wolves in both the men's long jump and triple jump. He reached a new season-best mark in the long jump when he hit 23-02.50. In the triple jump he added a mark of 46-04.25. Following Fields in the long jump was Marlon Harrison who came in sixth with a jump of 20-02.50 and Nafziger in seventh with a jump of 20-01.00. Harrison also came in fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 45-01.50.
Lyness-Morales also placed fifth in the women's shot put, just finishing short of her season-best mark hitting a distance of 33-09.50.
