WOU Alums Ribich and Holdsworth to Compete in U.S. Olympic Team Trials

EUGENE, Ore. -- Western Oregon University will be well represented at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials over the next week. WOU alums David Ribich and Derek Holdsworth will both be competing with a chance of qualifying for the Olympics this year. 

Ribich ran in the 1,500-meter first round on Thursday, June 24. Ribich placed third in the first heat of the event to qualify for the semifinals. He posted a time of 3:45.71, just behind the top time in his heat of 3:45.63. Ribich will now prepare for the semifinals that will run on June 25 at 4 p.m. If Ribich advances past the semifinals, the finals will take place a few days later on June 27 at 4:52 p.m. Ribich enters with the 28th-best mark entering the meet with a time of 3:37.44 set during the 2019 season. His top season time is 3:44.72 set during the Oregon Relays.

Holdsworth competed in the 800-meter on Friday, June 18. Running in the fourth heat, Holdsworth posted a time of 1:49.10 to come in 21st out of 32 runners. He just missed a spot in the semifinals. He placed fifth in the fourth heat, as the four finishers ahead of him in his heat all qualified for the semifinals.
Holdsworth entered with the 19th-best mark entering the meet with a time of 1:46.65 from earlier this season at the Stumptown Twilight High Performance Meet in Portland.
