MONMOUTH, Ore. – The third game of the homestand arrives this Friday night for the Western Oregon University women's basketball team when they host Montana State Billings in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action starting at 5:15 p.m. inside New PE Gym.
WOU (6-5, 2-2 GNAC) picked up their fifth straight win at home this past Tuesday against Alaska Fairbanks claiming the 80-68 victory. Dating back to the 2019-20 season, the Wolves have now won six straight inside New PE Gym.
There were big contributions throughout the lineup in the win over the Nanooks as Tresai McCarver pushed for another triple-double coming away with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Casandra White put together a big night in just nine minutes going for nine points off of a trio of three-pointers. Amber Winkler tallied a solid stat line that included six blocks, seven rebounds and 10 points. Cali McClave scored a team-high 16 points. Madisyn Clark added 13 points and five rebounds.
Meadow Aragon leads the team in points per game (12.7), field goals (46), rebounds (69), and blocks (22). McCarver is at 10.9 points, while leading the team in assists with 51 and is tied for the team lead in steals with 18. Cali McClave is tied with McCarver for the team lead in steals with 18, while adding 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 16 assists. She also leads the team in three-pointers with 13. Clark is second on the team in three-pointers with 12, while adding 7.4 points and 19 assists. WOU averages 67.7 points and allows 64.9 points.
Since 2001, Montana State Billings holds a 26-7 record against the Wolves and have gone 8-2 over the past 10 meetings. During the 2019-20 season, the teams split the two meetings with each winning on their home floors. WOU came close to picking up the win on the road going to overtime in Billings.
Montana State Billings is 8-7 on the season and 2-1 in GNAC play. The 'Jackets have won their past two games coming back to defeat Simon Fraser (78-66) and picking up a win in Las Vegas against Wisconsin Parkside (72-58).
Taryn Shelley leads the team averaging 13.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She also adds 19 blocks and 11 assists. Cariann Kinkel adds 11.7 points per game, along with 5.5 rebounds, 30 assists and 14 steals. Shayla Montague is at 7.6 points and four rebounds per game, along with 10 steals. The 'Jackets average 67.2 points and allow 63.8 points.
