MONMOUTH, Ore. -- The Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams will host the John Knight Twilight this Friday. In addition to hosting the meet, the Wolves will honor their 11 senior student-athletes. Below is a recap of the careers of each senior.
Justin Crosswhite
Crosswhite spent his entire collegiate career with the Wolves after arriving from Hood River High School in Hood River, Ore. He began his career on the cross country course during the 2016 season collecting a pair of top-15 results at the Oregon State John Frank Invitational and the Ash Creek Invitational. In his first cross country GNAC Championships, Crosswhite placed 25th that year and later competed in the NCAA Division II West Regional. During the 2017 season, he came in 15th at the GNAC Championships and came in 64th at Regionals. In 2018, he ran in both the GNAC and Regional events again and this past year in 2019, he came in runner-up at the GNAC Championships and placed 61st at Regionals. On the track, Crosswhite has competed in the 800, 1,500, mile and 3,000, along with the distance medley relay and the 4x400 relays. He ran in the mile and DMR during his first GNAC Indoor Championships in 2017. That outdoor season, he competed in the 1,500 at the GNAC Championships. Crosswhite started to post strong results in the 2018 GNAC Indoor Championships coming in third in the mile and second in the DMR. He was part of the DMR that competed in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships as earlier that year he placed first in the GNAC Indoor Championships in the mile. During the most recent GNAC Indoor Championships in 2019, Crosswhite came in fourth in the mile. During the past outdoor season, Crosswhite came in second in the 1,500 and seventh in the 800. He set new PR times in the 1,500 and 800 during the year crossing at 3:50.61 in the 1,500 and 1:51.97 in the 800.
Moana Gianotti
Gianotti arrived at WOU after competing at Riddle High School in Riddle, Ore. Gianotti threw in her first collegiate event during the UW Invitational in 2018 in the shot put. That year she entered in her first GNAC Indoor Championships throwing both the shot put and weight throw. During the 2018 GNAC Outdoor Championships, Gianotti threw the shot put and discus and then placed in the top-10 in the shot put and weight throw at the 2019 GNAC Indoor Championships coming in sixth in the weight and ninth in the shot put. In WOU's John Knight Twilight, Gianotti set a new personal-best throw in the discus hitting a mark of 141-10 to come in first. During the GNAC Outdoor Championships that year, Gianotti came in third in the discus, fourth in the shot put and sixth in the hammer throw. During the past 2020 season, Gianotti set a new personal-best in the shot put of 44-9 at the UW Invitational, a mark of 50-10.25 in the weight throw at the GNAC Indoor Championships in which she placed sixth and also came in third in the shot put. During the 2021 indoor season, Gianotti hit a new PR in the shot put at the GNAC Championships when she hit a mark of 45-0.5 to win the event. She also placed fourth in the discus and fifth in the hammer. During the past indoor season, Gianotti hit a new PR mark in the weight throw with a distance of 52-3.25 to come in second. She also won the shot put with a throw of 44-11.5. So far this outdoor season, Gianotti has competed in the shot put, discus and the hammer, having placed fourth in the shot put at Oregon State and placed fifth in both the discus and hammer at Willamette.
Aaron Hanible
Hanible arrived at WOU from Heritage High School in Brentwood, Calif. Hanible began his WOU career in 2018 competing in the UW Preview seeing time in the 60 hurdles, 4x400 and the long jump. Later during the 2021 GNAC Outdoor Championships, Hanible set multiple PR marks in the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles when he came in fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.31 and then with a time of 15.66 in the 110 hurdles. He also competed in the 4x100 coming in fifth and in the 4x400 coming in third. During the 2022 indoor season, Hanible entered in the 400 and 60 hurdles at the GNAC Indoor Championships posting a time of 50.53 in the 400 to come in sixth and in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.74 to come in seventh, both PR marks. So far this outdoor season, he has competed in the 400 hurdles, 110 hurdles and the 4x400, coming in first in the 400 hurdles during Willamette.
Taryn Wilson
Wilson arrived at WOU from St. Margaret High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Wilson competed in her first event at WOU in 2019 at the UW Preview entering in the 200 and the 4x400. She later competed in her first GNAC Championships during the indoor season running in the 200 and helping the 4x400 place third. Wilson set a PR time in the 200 coming in at 26.18 at the L&C Spring Break Open. She later competed in the 200 and the 4x100 during the GNAC Outdoor Championships helping the relay team place sixth. During this past indoor season, Wilson hit a new PR in the 60 with a time of 8.49 during the Portland Indoor #2. She also competed in the 200 during the GNAC Indoor Championships. So far this outdoor season, Wilson has run in the 100 and the 200, coming in with a new PR time of 12.73 in the 100 at the Hayward Premiere. She also placed fourth in the 200 at Willamette.
Logan Jackson
Jackson arrived at WOU from Richland High School in Richland, Wash. Jackson competed in her first event at WOU in 2019 at the UW Preview running in the 4x400. She later entered in the GNAC Indoor Championships that year running in the 200. Jackson set a PR time in the 400 hurdles during the John Knight Twilight in 2019 with a time of 1:11.35. She later added a PR mark of 13.04 in the 100 at the Portland Twilight. During the GNAC Outdoor Championships in 2019, Jackson competed in the 100, 200 and the 4x100, setting a new PR in the 200 with a time of 26.37. She also helped the relay team come in sixth. During the 2020 indoor season, Jackson hit a new PR time of 8.24 in the 60 at the Portland Indoor #1. During this past indoor season, Jackson added another PR in the triple jump during the Portland Indoor #2 hitting a distance of 33-2.5. So far this outdoor season, Jackson has competed in the 100 and triple jump, coming in fourth in the triple jump at Willamette.
Devin Hasher
Hasher arrived at WOU from Mount Hood CC after competing at Pilot Rock High School in Pilot Rock, Ore. Hasher competed in his first event at WOU during the 2020 season at the UW Preview in the high jump. During the GNAC Indoor Championships that season he hit a new PR mark of 6-7 in the high jump coming in sixth. During the GNAC Outdoor Championships in 2021, Hasher came in fifth in the high jump and also added a pair of first-place finishes in the event during the season at Willamette and Linfield. During this past indoor season, Hasher came in sixth at the GNAC Indoor Championships in the high jump and placed fifth at the Portland Indoor #2. So far this outdoor season, he has hit 6-2.75 in all three high jump attempts, coming in third at both Oregon State and Willamette.
Gabe Arce-Torres
Arce-Torres arrived at WOU from Taft High School in Lincoln City, Ore. Arce-Torres competed in his first event at WOU during the 2019 season at the UW Preview in the 4x400. He later set a PR mark in the 800 at Bryan Clay with a time of 1:58.67. During the GNAC Outdoor Championships that year, Arce-Torres came in third in the 400 with a PR time of 48.93 and also helped the 4x400 come in third. During the 2020 GNAC Indoor Championships, Arce-Torres came in seventh in the 400 and helped the 4x400 to a runner-up finish. He was also set to compete that year in the DMR at the NCAA National Championships Meet that was canceled due to COVID. During this past 2022 GNAC Indoor Championships, Arce-Torres set more PR marks in the 60 and 200, crossing at 7.19 in the 60 and 22.30 in the 200. He later placed fifth in the 200 finals. So far this outdoor season, Arce-Torres has competed in the 400 and the 4x400, coming in second in the 400 at Oregon State and helping the 4x400 place fifth at Willamette.
Samuel Cole
Cole arrived at WOU from Clackamas after competing locally at Central High School here in Monmouth, Ore. Cole competed in his first event at WOU during the 2019 season entering in the shot put and weight throw at the WSU Cougar Indoor. He then entered his first GNAC Championships a few weeks later coming in ninth in the weight throw and also competed in the shot put. During the 2019 GNAC Outdoor Championships, Cole came in 10th with a PR mark of 48-6.75 in the shot put and also placed eighth in the hammer. During the 2020 GNAC Indoor Championships, Cole came in ninth in the shot put and he also entered in the weight throw. During the 2021 outdoor season, Cole came in first several times in the hammer and later placed fourth at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in the hammer with a new PR distance of 170-1 to come in fourth. He also placed sixth in the shot put at the championships. During the 2022 GNAC Indoor Championships, it was a strong showing for Cole when he placed second in the weight throw with a new PR distance of 54-2 and also came in third in the shot put. So far this outdoor season, Cole has competed in the shot put and hammer, coming in third in the shot put and fifth in the hammer at Oregon State.
Owen Collins
Collins arrived at WOU from Sunset High School in Portland, Ore. He competed in his first event at WOU during the 2018 season at Willamette in the shot put and discus. He later competed in the hammer during the 2018 GNAC Outdoor Championships that season. During the 2019 GNAC Indoor Championships, he competed in the shot put and the weight throw. Collins set a PR mark in the discus at Willamette during the 2019 season hitting a distance of 148-1. He entered in both the shot put and discus during the GNAC Outdoor Championships in 2019. Collins placed ninth in the weight throw and also competed in the shot put during the 2020 GNAC Indoor Championships. He placed first in multiple meets in the shot put during the 2021 outdoor season and later put together a strong GNAC Outdoor Championships coming in fourth in the shot put, fifth in the discus and sixth in the hammer. His new hammer mark set a PR of 161. During this past indoor season, it was another big showing for Collins when he came in second in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw during the GNAC Indoor Championships. Both were new PR marks when he hit a distance of 49-3.75 in the shot put and 52-4.75 in the weight throw. So far this outdoor season, Collins has competed in the shot put and hammer, coming in first in the shot put at Willamette and third in the hammer also at Willamette.
Austin Goldstein
Goldstein arrived at WOU from Sherwood High School in Sherwood, Ore. Goldstein, who is also a member of the WOU football team, started competing in track and field for the Wolves during the 2019 season when he entered the javelin at the John Knight Twilight. He later entered the GNAC Outdoor Championships that year competing in the javelin. He continued to improve his distances in the javelin and during the 2021 GNAC Outdoor Championships he placed second in the event. So far this outdoor season he has continued to climb the WOU all-time record books in the javelin. Since opening the outdoor season at Willamette, Goldstein has hit a new PR and provisional mark each meet including the most recent meet at the Hayward Premiere when he hit a distance of 206-7 to come in sixth. In his other two meets, he won both in the javelin. Goldstein has already been named GNAC Field Athlete of the Week twice this year.
Kaylin Cantu
Cantu arrived at WOU from Kennedy High School in Mt. Angel, Ore. Cantu began her WOU career in 2019 at the WSU Cougar Open competing in the 3,000. She later set a new PR in the event a few meets later crossing at 10:26.56 during the SPU Final Qualifier. Cantu also competed in the 3,000 during the GNAC Indoor Championships in 2019. During the 2019 outdoor season, Cantu set a new PR in the 5,000 crossing at 18:04.46 at Willamette. A few meets later, it was another PR in the 1,500 posting a time of 4:51.28 at the Cougar Open. Cantu entered in the 5,000 during the GNAC Outdoor Championships that same season. After competing in the 5,000 during the 2020 GNAC Indoor Championships, Cantu put together a strong run at the GNAC Indoor Championships in 2022 competing in the 3,000 and the 5,000. She placed fourth in the 5,000 and then came in eighth in the 3,000. So far this outdoor season, Cantu has competed in the 1,500 coming in third at Willamette and also competed in the 5,000 during the Mike Fanelli Classic. Cantu is in the WOU record books in both the 3,000 and 5,000 during the indoor season.
