Wright Set To Compete In The Javelin At Nationals This Saturday In Michigan

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Kaylee Wright will take one of the top javelin marks in the country to the national stage this Saturday when she will compete in the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. The javelin will take place on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. (Pacific).

Wright is entering the championships on a high note having won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title in the javelin. Also, just a few weeks prior to GNAC's, Wright hit a new personal-best mark in the javelin of 158-8 during the Oregon State High Performance. In fact, over her last three meets, Wright has either finished runner-up or won the event. Three times this season Wright was named the GNAC Field Athlete of the Week.

Wright's top distance of 158-8 ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division II and is just a few feet off of the second-best throw in DII this year. The top mark so far in NCAA DII this year belongs to Texas A&M-Commerce's Candesha Scott at 167-7, who is a senior on the Lions team this year.

Wright has reached over 150 feet twice this outdoor season, posting a throw of 151-4 during the Pacific Coast Invitational.

WOU has had a history of javelin throwers making it to the national stage. Darian Wilson placed seventh as a true freshman at nationals in 2018 and then followed that up placing sixth in 2019. Prior to that, Amanda Schumaker became a four-time All-American in the javelin after finishing her career placing sixth at nationals in 2013. Her top finish of third came in 2012 and Schumaker also added nationals finishes of sixth in 2010 and eighth in 2011. Seabre Church also added All-America honors placing fifth in 2014.
