SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Western Oregon women's track and field team won its first GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Tuesday, edging Western Washington for the title.
The Wolves finished with 122 points, five points ahead of Western Washington and 12 points ahead of third-place Simon Fraser.
Jenelle Hurley won her second GNAC indoor title in as many days (she won the pentathlon with a school-record effort Monday)Â as she took first in the high jump at 5 feet, 5.25 inches with
Amity Deters (third, 5-3.25) and
Kalulusno Ngaida (fourth, 5-1.25) also scoring big points for the Wolves in the event. Hurley also took seventh in the triple jump and was named the Women's Field Athletes of the Meet.
Ana Popchock won the indoor triple jump title for the second year in a row, claiming the crown with a mark at 38 feet, 2.75 inches with teammate
Amariyah Clay taking fifth (37-1).Â
Maliyah Thompson set a WOU record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68 - good for second place while Popchock took fifth in the race. She also took third in the 60 (7.61).
Now the Wolves will wait to see who qualifies for the NCAA Championships - which are set for March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
