ALLENDALE, Mich. – Making her first trip to Nationals, Kaylee Wright saved her best throw for last to climb to a 13th place finish at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in the javelin on Saturday morning on the campus of Grand Valley State in Michigan.
Competing against a field of 21, Wright was able to jump several spots on her third throw of the day reaching a distance of 138-10 to come in 13th. She was just behind Lake Superior State's Jenna Fleming's mark of 139-1 in 12th.
Nine made the finals with Azusa Pacific's Luisa Fischer claiming the last spot with a throw of 146-4. Texas A&M-Commerce's Candesha Scott, who entered with the top distance in the nation, won the javelin with a mark of 179-10.
It was a strong season for Wright as the sophomore won the GNAC Outdoor Championships and hit a personal-best distance of 158-8 during the Oregon State High Performance. In addition to winning GNAC's, Wright also won the javelin at Willamette (twice) and John Knight Twilight.
