NEW ORLEANS – Coming off of a year to remember for the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams, the Wolves had four student-athletes named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Team this week.
The top-five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors.
Samuel Cole, Austin Goldstein, Moana Gianotti and Kaylee Wright took home the accolades for the Wolves.
Cole was recognized in the hammer. This past outdoor season he finished the year strong coming in second at the GNAC Outdoor Championships in the event with a new personal-best mark of 178-7. Cole had the momentum building entering the championships after hitting a previous PR distance of 173-3 at the Oregon State High Performance the final meet before conference.
Goldstein was recognized in the javelin. It was a strong start to the outdoor season for Goldstein in the event when he hit a new personal-best and moved into the top-10 on the WOU all-time record books with a throw of 206-7 at the Hayward Premiere. During the GNAC Championships, Goldstein placed fourth with a distance of 197-4. He just missed qualifying for the NCAA National Championships with the 21st-best throw in the nation.
Gianotti was recognized in the shot put. During the middle of the outdoor season, Gianotti hit her new personal-best throw of 45-10.75 in the shot put during the Pacific Coast Invitational. She then saved her next best throw for the final meet of the year at the GNAC Championships when Gianotti won the event with a throw of 45-3.5. That gave her back-to-back first-place results at GNAC's.
Wright was recognized in the javelin. It was certainly a year to remember for Wright. Before getting the chance to compete on the national stage, Wright was building an impressive outdoor season that saw her climb to second on the WOU all-time record books in the event. That mark occurred at the Oregon State High Performance when Wright hit a distance of 158-8. She then went on to win the GNAC Championships with a throw of 149-6. At the NCAA National Championships in Michigan, Wright finished 13th in the nation.
