MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team hits the road to take on a pair of RMAC schools in Westminster and Colorado Mesa this week - hoping to build off its program-opening win Friday in Monmouth.

WOLVES HEADING INTO THE WEEK | 2022 STATS
Western Oregon opened not only its season, but the program's history, on a high note Friday at WOU Soccer Field as the Wolves defeated Hawaii Pacific 1-0 thanks to a stellar defensive effort (allowing just one shot on goal) and getting the first goal and game-winner in program history in the 74th minute off the foot of freshman Alex Grignon. Juan Suarez picked up the shutout at keeper, making the one save he had to make while helping guide the defense. Alex Villalobos led the team with four shots - one on goal.

WESTMINSTER HEADING INTO THE WEEK | 2022 STATISTICS
The Griffins are 0-2 heading into the week after a pair of losses in California last week - falling at Azusa Pacific 4-3 on Thursday and at Cal Poly Pomona 2-0 on Saturday.

Din Huremovic had a pair of goals i nthe loss to Azusa Pacific while Armin Hasanovic had a goal and an assist. Westminster has played a different goalkeeper in each game with Roark Looney allowing four goals and making five saves in the loss to Azusa Pacific while Noah Larkin made five saves and allowed two goals in the loss to Cal Poly Pomona (both keepers faced 13 shots).

COLORADO MESA HEADING INTO THE WEEK | 2022 STATISTICS
The Mavericks went 1-1 on the road last week in Laredo, Texas - losing to No. 22 Midwestern State 3-2 Thursday and defeating host Texas A&M International 1-0 Saturday.

Manuel Ponce Casas leads the team with two goals on seven shots this season (six on goal) while Joey Joiner has the other goal. Joao Pedro Maraes and Diogo Silva each have an assist. At keeper, Connor Durant has played all 180 minutes and has a 1.50 GAA with 10 saves and a 0.769 save percentage.
WESTERN OREGON MEN'S SOCCER NOTES
GAME 1, WIN 1 ...
The Wolves opened their program history in impressive fashion - defeating a solid Hawaii Pacific team 1-0 on Aug. 26. The first goal in program history came from freshman Alex Grignon in the 74th minute to give WOU the lead for good.

GNAC TEAM OF THE WEEK - RELEASE
The Western Oregon men's soccer team was named the GNAC Team of the Week on Aug. 29 after the Wolves won their first match in program history. The Wolves defeated Hawaii Pacific, 1-0, at WOU Soccer Field on Friday - a Sharks squad that had eight wins under its belt a season ago and return much of its starting lineup.

"My staff and team are honored to be given this recognition," WOU men's soccer coach Stan Rodrigues said. "This has been a longtime coming and putting the first ever team together has had many great moments. We know the GNAC is extremely competitive and we are proud to be a part of it."
