LACEY, Washington --- The Western Oregon volleyball team battled tough, but fell just short to Adelphi 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11) Thursday evening at the Marcus Pavilion at the Saint Martin's University Tournament.
The Wolves (2-3) held a 2-1 set advantage on Adelphi (3-2) as the two teams played a back-and-forth fourth set. WOU led 21-18 after a
Delaney Smith kill before a 5-0 run by Adelphi made it 23-21. But a pair of attack errors by Adelphi tied it up at 23 and the score was tied at 24 before a kill and a WOU attack error gave Adelphi the win 26-24 to force a fifth-and-deciding set.
The Wolves fell behind 5-0 in the fifth set, but did cut it to 13-10 before falling 15-10.
Lauren Smith and
Madison Hornback led four Wolves in double figures in kills with 14 apiece while
Bailee Hartsook had 13 and
Ella Nordquist finished with 10.
Emily West had a team-high 28 assists while Sophie Casarez wasn't far behind with 24.
Delaney Smith had a WOU-high four blocks while
Ally Henry had 18 digs and Hornback added 14.
The Wolves return to action Friday as they take on Westminster at 1 p.m. and Westsern New Mexico at 5 p.m.
