Walker breaks WOU indoor heptathlon record, takes third in Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho --- Western Oregon's JJ Walker broke the school's 10-year-old heptathlon record while taking third place at the Lauren McCluskey Multi on Saturday at the Kibbie Dome Indoor Track.

Walker finished with 4,728 points - beating Eric Gaines' mark of 4,530 points set in 2013. Walker was in second place on the list after totaling 4,463 points in a meet last year..

Though he didn't finish better than fourth in any event (took fourth in the long jump), Walker racked up consistent number throughout the events to set the Wolves record.

Gabe Burchfield cracked the WOU all-time top 10 as well with 3,786 points this weekend - taking over the No. 10 spot from Deshaun Stevens. Burchfield won the high jump with a height of 1.91 meters.

Amariyah Clay led the WOU women pentathletes, finishing eighth with 3,009 points - good for the No. 7 spot in WOU indoor history.

More WOU athletes are competing Sunday at the Portland Indoor #1 at the Chiles Center.
