Wolves battle close each set, but fall in three to No. 20 Central Washington

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team battled 20th-ranked Central Washington tough each set, but fell short 3-0 (30-28, 29-27, 25-22) Saturday afternoon at New PE Building.

The Wolves (8-12 overall, 2-10 GNAC) had three set points in the first set, but couldn't convert before falling 30-28. In the second set, WOU had two set points before falling 29-27 and was right there with the Wildcats (15-6 overall, 9-4 GNAC) in the third set before falling 25-22. In the first and third sets, WOU had leads of seven and six points, respectively.

Madison Hornback - coming off a 27-kill performance in a five-set loss to Northwest Nazarene on Thursday, a GNAC high this season - had an eye-popping 23 kills in three sets for the Wolves on Saturday - the most by five kills in the GNAC this season and tied for the fifth most in a three-set match in the NCAA this season. Samantha Darby had a WOU-high 25 assists, Chloe Asciutto had a team-best four blocks and Bailee Hartsook led the team with 24 digs.

WOU returns to action Thursday at Alaska Anchorage.
