Jenelle Hurley won her second straight conference pentathlon title thanks to a school-record effort and
Ujunwa Nwokoma broke her own school record in the long jump while winning a conference title to highlight the Wolves' first day at the GNAC Championships.

Hurley finished with 3,585 points to win the event by more than 400 points over second-place Matty Lagerwey of Western Washington. Hurley won the 60-meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump while taking second in the shot put and fourth in the 800.

Hurley wasn't alone in picking up points for the Wolves in the event as
Amity Deters took fourth place and
Macy Clemens finished sixth.

Nwokoma broke her own school record in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet – the No. 8 mark in GNAC history. Hurley took second in the event with a distance of 17-11.75.

Caitlin Heldt earned the Wolves another eight points as she took second in the 5,000 with a time of 18 minutes, 4.89 seconds.

The WOU women's distance medley relay team of
Natalie Perez,
Bethanie Altamirano,
Katie Chapman and
Holly Hutton took fourth.

Liliana Lyness-Morales took seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 47-2.50 to earn WOU two more points.

Qualifying for Tuesday's finals on the women's side was
Maliyah Thompson (60 – 7.65, 60 hurdles – 8.80) and
Ana Popchock (60 hurdles – 8.93).

The WOU women sit in second place after day one, only behind Western Washington.

On the men's side earning points was
Bailey Smith (seventh in the 5,000 – 14:52.91),
Justin Conklin (third in the high jump – 6-2.5), Gabe Burchfield (eighth in the high jump – 6-0.5),
Tyler White (seventh in the long jump – 21-10.75),
Mark Warren (third in the weight throw - 52-11.5),
Justin Parnell (seventh in the weight throw – 48-00) and the distance medley relay team of
Emmett Klus,
Deshaun Stevens,
Wyatt Smith and
Easton Pomrankey (second place – 10:14.37).
