FRESNO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon baseball team split a doubleheader at Fresno Pacific, dropping the first game 4-1 and winning the second 5-3 Friday at FPU Diamond.
In the first game the Wolves (1-2) took a 1-0 lead on a
John Oleson RBI single in the second before the Sunbirds (2-1) scored a run in the third, five in the fifth and one in the sixth to win 4-1.
Arturo Alvarez picked up the loss, going five innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Oleson paced WOU at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
In game two, the Wolves fell behind 1-0 before scoring a run in each the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth inning to come away with the 5-3 win.
Hibiki Ouchi went 2-for-3 for the Wolves with a home run and two RBI,
Jacob Maiben went 3-for-3 with a stolen base and
Curran Mitzel went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and a triple.
Chris Hardin picked up the win, going 5.1 innings and giving up three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts.
Ryan Shipley got the save, going 1.2 perfect innings and striking out two.
The teams conclude the series 11 a.m. Saturday.
